He then worked for the Davis County School district, retir- ing in 1975. She was born in Salt Lake City, on Jan. 18, 1919, the daughter of Robert J. and Virginia H. Schwag-le- r. Her family moved to Farming-to- n when she was very young. After the death of her parents, the Wagners continued to live in the family home until a fire destroyed it in December 1985. The Wagners then moved to their present address in Layton. The Wagners were married April 10, 1937 in Farmington. They have VIRGINIA WAGNER lived in Farmington and Layton their entire married life. Virginia retired from the Defense Depot in Ogden in 1986 after 22 years of service. They are members of the LDS Church. The Wagners have three daugh- ters, Virginia Anderson, Sandy; Leslie Ann Roylance, Salt Lake City; Robynn Peterson, West Valley. They have seven grandchildren and two great grandsons. Educator honored Elva M. Barnes of Bountiful has been named Distinguished Woman of the Year by the Kaysville Branch of the American Association of University Women. Ms. Barnes, currently assistant principal at Bountiful Junior High School, has set an impressive record in education, public service, and politics since her graduation from the University of Utah with a B.S. degree in home economics in 1952. She has since earned a Professional Certificate in Educational Administration and a degree as education specialist (Ed.S.) at the University of Utah. Appointed by Governor Scott Matheson to the State Board of Regents in 1983, she is the only woman to serve on the budget and finance committee and the audit committee. She has served on the important Liaison Committee which coordinates activities of the Board of Regents and the State Board of Education. As chair of the Council of Advisors on Consumer Credit she gained support from the financial community, consumer groups, and community organizations resulting in legislation that eliminated credit discrimination based on sex, marital status, or race. Over a period of 12 years she was involved in legislation billed as the most comprehensive consumer legislation passed by any state in the Union. Elva has been a member of numerous civic groups including Utah State Womens Legislative Council, League of Utah Consumers, Group Health Association of Utah, Better Business Bureau of Greater Salt Lake , Davis County Community Services Council, Davis County Commission on Children and Youth and Davis County Council PTA. An active Democrat, Ms. Barnes has been involved in election campaigns of outstanding Utahns all her life. She is a member of numerous professional and educational organizations. She is the executive editor for The Clearing House a professional journal. She and her 3-- the North Church Street LDS Chapef, 2500 N. Church Street, p.m. The family Layton from requests no gifts please. Mr. Firth was born April 9, 1897 in South Weber, a son of Robert Jackson and Frances Young Firth. He is the sixth child in a family of eight children. A sister, Vernita Firth of Roy and a brother, Joe Firth of Tremonton are still living. He completed his education in the South Weber School system. On June 15, 1927 he married Mattie Nalder in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She lived in Layton and traveled to South Weber to teach school. She boarded during the winter months with a Firth family that were distant relatives of Bills. She passed away Nov. 1, ding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children. The event will be held Friday, April 10 at the Farmington Municipal Building, 130 N. Main, Farmington from p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend. It is requested that gifts be omitted. He was born in Victor, Iowa on Aug. 1, 1915, the son of William Frank and Margaret Wagner. The family moved to Monticello in Stanford Wiggill will be honored at an open house to celebrate his 80th birthday. It will be held Saturday, April 11 at the Layton 16th Ward Chapel, 125 Chapel Street from 5 p.m. Mr. Wiggill was born April 7, 1907 in Layton. He attended the one room Dawson Hollow School An open house honoring John William (Bill) Firth's 90th birthday will be held Saturday, April 11 at Lfester (Les) and Virginia Wagner of 301 N. Main, 153, Layton, will be honored for their 50th wed- 7-- 80th birthday to be observed 6 for one year before attending Layton Elementary. He married Florence Cook Oct. 17, 1932. They are parents of two sons, Vern and Reed, have four grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. He has spent much of his life farming and trucking. He worked at the Ogden Arsenal until 1941 and retired from Hill Field in 1972. 1981. After their marriage the Firths moved to Layton and built a home at 1527 N. Church Street where Bill still resides. Mr. Firth has three children. They and their spouses are Ralph W. and Kathryn Firth of Layton, Elwin and Ileen Firth Roberts of Layton and Donna Firth Hamilton of Fremont, Calif. He has 13 grandchildren and 21 greatg- randchildren. From early childhood until the present time, Mr. Firth has been a farmer. He just completed lambing and spring planting. He still farms the property originally purchased by his parents in South Weber. Mr. Firth also farms ground near his home in Layton. His principle interests in the line of farming have been hay, grain, potatoes, sheep and cattle. Mr. Firth has always loved horses. He rode with the Davis County Sheriffs Posse for 10 years. In addition to farming. Bill has engaged in many other occupations. For 20 years, he and Alex Dawson were partners in the home construction business. Many of the finest homes in Layton were built by them. The partners built a home for Bills son, Ralph. Mr. Firth has been a member of the Davis ASC Soil Conservation group since it was organized in the 1930s. He has served as an officer and committee member for many ELVA M. BARNES family have worked in the International Visitors Center and entertained visitors from all over the world. ' She is married to Richard P. Barnes. They have two sons, Stephen Mark and Richard David. Ms. Barnes will be honored by the Kaysville Branch AAUW at a special luncheon on May 16. She will be a candidate for Distinguished Woman of the Year by the Utah State Division of AAUW. years. He and his wife, Mattie, were active in the Golden Harvest, Senior Citizen group.
