Cherry Lane, East Layton, died Saturday, March 28, 1987 at the Humana Hospital Davis North in Layton of a heart ailment. He was born Nov. II, 1910, in Preston, Ida., a son of Osborn and Myrtle Dailey Golightly. He married Una Bodily Nov. 29, 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a member of the Layton 35th Ward. He had served as a ward clerk and home teacher. He had been a scout leader for many years. He had retired as a carpenter at Hill Air Force Base. He had lived in Preston and Ida.; Salt Lake City, Sandy, 1632 Surge Samuel Empey Sr., 81, of 232 Barbara Ave., Layton, died Saturday, March 28, 1987 at his home of causes incident to age. He was born Aug. 19, 1905, in Ogden, a son of William and Alice Rozella Smith Empey, He married Mary Batchelor. They were later divorced. He married Marda Weaver July 10, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. She died Nov. 22, 1980. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion,, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He had been a warehouse foreman at Hill Air Force Base, retiring after 28 years of service. He owned and operated Surges Lock Shop in Layton. He was a member of the LDS Church and had lived in Ogden, Sahara Village and in Layton. Surviving is one son, Surge S. Empey Jr., San Antonio, Tex., and four grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Auretta ONeil, Ogden. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Services were held April 2 in the Layton LDS Stake Center with Bishop Kurt Randall of the LDS 23rd Ward officiating. Funeral directors, Myers Mortuary. Family prayer was by Brent Lin-ros- e, Clearfield, Layton and East Layton. Surviving are his widow of East Layton; two Sons and five daughters, Richard Bruce Golightly, SURGE SAMUEL EMPEY SR. Casketbearers were Robert ONeil, Brent Johnson, Jesse Arranda, Dale Walters, Jerry Bar-fus- s, and Vance Mendenhall. Honorary casket bearers were Scott Johnson, Stephen Abeyta and Bennie Abeyta. Dedication of the grave was by Robert Whetstone. Interment was in the Kaysville City Cemetery with military honors accorded by the American Legion Color Guard. She was bom March 15, 1908 in Tuttle, Okla., a daughter of James Mason and Cleora A. Casto Jennings. Lopez rites conducted Deborah Mikale Lopez, 2, of 221 N. Fairfield Road, 93, Layton, died Friday, March 27, 1987 at the Primary Childrens Medical Center in Salt Lake City as a result of falling into the Weber River. She was bom Dec. 29, 1984 in Layton, a daughter of Steven Joseph and Marti Hall Lopez. She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Surviving are her parents, Steven Lopez, Salt Lake City; Marti Hall, Layton; and one stepbrother, Joey Lopez, Salt Lake City. n. Myron Morris Layton, 80, retired Colonel, U.S. Army, died Tuesday, March 31, 1987 in Salt Lake City. Colonel Layton was bom Feb. 8, 1907, in Kaysville, to George Christopher and Annie Louisa Sec-riLayton. He graduated from Davis High School, and in 1930 received his degree in business and a Second Lieutenants commission in the ROTC at Utah State University. Services were held April 1 at the Myers Mortuary Chapel in Layton with John Petroff, a counselor in the bishopric, officiating. Family prayer was by R. Bodily with interment in the Memorial Gardens of the Artist Linda Sisneros has created logos for the north end junior high schools to be displayed in the Syracuse Junior High School gymnasium. Logo identifies SJH SYRACUSE One oftheexcit-inthings to watch as a new school opens is the way traditions are formed and the way the school evolves its own set of customs and its own personality. Syracuse Junior High School opened this fall. Already it is becoming a community center, a source of pride for students and patrons. Colonel Layton spent most of his adult life in military service for his country, in times of war and peace. During World War II, he served in the Philippines and the Far Eastern Command General Headquarters, First Cavalry. He also served as l Advisor to the Korean Army Training in 1954 and 1955. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Chungmi Distinguished Service Medal with Gold Star, and the Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He served three tours of duty at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas, where he County, that will hang in the gymnasium. Pictured on the murals are the mascots of Kaysville, North Layton, North Davis, Sunset and Central Junior Highs. These are Syracuses opponents in sports. g One retired from active duty as a Colonel on July 30, 1959. While commanding the First Battalion at Ft. Bliss, he was instrumental in the inauguration of the Reserve Forces Act, commanding the first pilot group to receive such training. He was a High Priest in the Salt Lake 33rd Ward of the LDS Church. Surviving are: his wife, Elaine Reeder Layton, Salt Lake City; two sons, Gary Kent, Salt Lake City; and Douglas Brent Seattle, mural shows double-size- d Syracuses mascot, a large Sea Hawk. The murals are the original paintings of Linda Sisneros, professional artist, teacher aide at Syracuse Junior and a resident of Syracuse. Mrs. Sisneros has contributed other things to the school including posters and designs and work for the first year. As a professional artist with three years training in commercial art, Mrs. Sisneros illustrated a series of Book of Mormon film e strips. She has also done work for advertisements and Wasatch. M. Layton dies Ila May Owens, 79, of 1209 Owens on July 10, 1938, in Tacoma, Wash. He died in 1943. She was a Christian and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Layton. She had worked as a school administrator in the Los Angelos City Schools. She lived in Roseda, Calif, from 1951 to 1974 and had worked at Northridge Junior High School where she later retired. Surviving are two sons, Warner R. Owens, Clearfield and Charles East Layton; Douglas LaNae JOSEPH RICHARD GOLIGHTLY Mahmut (Mary Alice) Yasar, Layton; Mrs. Conrad B.
