Show priesthood MEETING the monthly priesthood meeting of the salt lake stake of zion was held bold in the assembly hall hal today at 11 a ua elder angus M cannon annon president of the st ke presiding roll boll called showing as aa ful fallows lowe one high councilor four patriarchs all the members of the presidency of the high priests quorum fifteen home missionaries and ten presidents of SeVell seventies tie all the wards of the stake were properly represented excepting the fifth fourteenth and twentieth city w wards ards the first second seventh tenth twelfth thirteenth fourteenth fifteenth eighteenth nineteenth twentieth and twenty first quorums of elders were represented by their presiding officers the usual opening exercises were followed by the recommendation of twenty four men to be ordained to the office of elder ELDER ELDEB ANGUS M CANNON explained that in came caad of a man holding an office in the priesthood who kiss has been excommunicated from the church his rebaptism into the church and the reconfirmation or his former blessings does not restore to him the priesthood he formerly held that must be ba especially conferred upon him again these blessings sings must be re by the authority which removed them several of the brethren spoke of the duties of the ward teachers complaining or of their negligence in visiting and exhorting the people ELDER 0 W referred to this subject and stated that the duty of the visiting teachers or priest is to call on everybody in the w ward ard exhorting all to COMO come unto christ too frequently it is the 0 case ase that those who are most in used need of such visitations do not receive them especial diligence should be used with those people who had been lukewarm for years before the time of the dedication of the temple but who secured admittance to the dedicatory exercises because they had not been excommunicated from the church they should now be labored with and exhorted to renew their diligence and prove themselves worthy of the he stand ing they hold bold in the church of christ ELDER ELDEB ANGUS M X CANNON referred to tho the carelessness of the bishops of some ome of the wards with regard to their records these should be kept in perfect order and esch addition to the ward should be recorded in full whether such persons are received by baptism ur or by note of stun standing ding ER JOSEPH E B TAYLOR spoke of the financial condition of the latter day saints 1 college tn an this thie city and called attention to the fact that this thin condition is ie very discouraging he expressed his opinion to the effect that this stake to la in duty bound to rescue the college from its ite embarrass the eighteenth ward and the six words wards sustaining staining the central seminary may not be considered as nut not partaking of this responsibility but the other wares wards of the stake should feel the obligation in this thia direction elder taylor moved and it was unanimously unanimous Jy carried that elder angus M cannon bo be given full power to make whatever arrangements tie lie would consider necessary in this thia regard in response to this motion elder cannon requested the bishop of each ward except the seven named to appoint three influential men to meet with the stake board of education and the college board on saturday the dinst at 11 am in the office of the presidency of the stoke stake the meeting adjourned for one month benediction by elder ellas elias morris |
