SAC, Quarterback battle still in full swing Bryan Clay Invite T-Bi-rd By CARTER WILLIAMS cwilliamssuunews.com With a week left until Spring practices come to an end, the football team is still sorting out position battles across the board, but most eyes remain on who will be named SUUs starting quarterback for the upcoming season. Its still kind of up in the air, SUU quarterback Jacob Allie said. Coach hasnt named a starter yet. Its a great competition and all of us contribute differently. I try to do what I can; I know (Aaron) Cantu has a pretty good arm, so does Mitch (Dahlen) ... everyones doing really well right now. Not a lot of turnovers, getting the ball in the right hands. Right now its just been a lot of fun. Two weeks ago, SUU heac coach Ed Lamb said Allie, a senior, was ,he frontrunner, but deciding a quarterback hasnt been that easy, and will likely not be solved by the spring game Saturday. We cant just put in the best arm at quarterback, we have to look at everything when were looking to settle in on a QB, Lamb said. The race for quarterback has continues to whittle down during Spring football. Allie, junior college transfer Aaron Cantu and University ol Utah transfer Mitch Dahlen continue to fight out for the leader of SUUs offense. Aaron Cantu is learning the offense really well, Lamb said. He seems to be one of the more capable passers. Id put him and Mitch Dahlen in that same category. They understand the offense, they get the ball out on time and they have quick releases. Jake appears the guy who appears to be the guy to get us going in the running game. He can run the ball well himself, hes a physical player, he's a great leader, and we cant ignore those strengths. Allie has been an intriguing prospect at quarterback, coming to SUU as a quarterback, but rotating several offensive positions before returning to quarterback for this upcoming season. rd I played fullback "before I played tight young guys, running back Jarom Healey end and then I moved to tight end, so I kind said.
