chambal of commerce building fu g SALT LAKE CITY UTAH april to the president and B oard of directors salt lau lake chamber of commerce Oom merce GENTLEMEN your committee on commerce beg to report that our labors toward s securing ec ur ng 14 the e erection of a government idling b building u in this city have met with more success and enco encouragement ur a g ement than thail we had bad hoped for you have doubtless noticed in the daily papers that our representative se senta n tive in congress and governor west have strong and reasonable hopes hope that an ample appropriation will be made fur for this purpose all of which has been brought about by the combined and earnest action of our chamber with the foregoing flat bering prospect in view which of ef itself is a worthy instance of the results of unanimous effort we now call your attention to the past action of the chamber as regards the erection of a Cha chamber tiber of commerce building it appears that a committee was appointed for that purpose who te reported ported back to the chamber quite an exhaustive collection of plans specifications ote etc the c out of which would necessitate the expenditure of probably two million dollars the raisins raising of this sui sum was to be effected br by floating bonds buying up a ten acre b block 0 ek and numerous other deals thought by some to be of a speculative and risky character ter without going into further details it is but necessary to state that their plans did not meet with public confidence or the combined amb 1 u su support of our chamber while their efforts were highly praiseworthy and doubtless emanated from a sincere desire to further public industry and thrift your committee aye are of opinion that their plan was far in excess of the needs and necessities of our gur city and too gigantc gigan tr to most essential fe feature attire towards its completion financial aid is apparent to all ad that we are ai e today asa as far from having a commerce cop commerce merce building as ive we were bea before re the subject was M as taj agitated bated your Y our committee commito committee ee is still of opinion that nothing will more tend to stimulate our commerce or inspire the a building boom in oar midst than the of a commerce building aside from the te fact that it can be built upon a feasible self sustaining basis and we now recommend your honorable body that ii building will answer all needs and requirements tor for a chamber and we sug gest est that another another meeting be called in or der that the subject may be fully discussed from this basis baas C P MASON RUDOLPH HENRY HENBY SIEGEL J 4 B WALDEN i committee on commerce |
