WEST VALLEY VIEW Out Our Jh Ckmkim mm Window Heim EM Judy Wimmer Will Be In Married 'Btwfkid By the time you have grandchildren, as I have, you've lived through many Christmases. You've seen all kinds come and go and if you're I lucky . . . as, thank God, am . . . you finally find the secret of the holiday and why it has lived through the ages no matter how we've abused it. February realize that we had been in terrible danger. We blindly flew over those high mountains in a heavy snow storm and were lucky to get out alive. It was my first flight and, to me it had seemed routine for the stewardess to organize games and carol singing. I didn't realize it was an emergency action to keep both her and us from panic. It marked me, and it was years before I could fly without horrible fear. I recall a childhood Christmas with my parents, brother Spencer and sisters. Amber, Fern and Bernice. We didn't have a tree then, and each of us decorated "our" chair. Long, laboriously made chains of red and green paper, popped corn and cranberries entwined those chairs and to me they were beautiful. linger in memory over the Christmases when my sons believed in Santa because that is a magic time that is too soon over. The holiday, seen through the eyes of a child, is forever treasured. I I don't know why we "did" chairs, but I think it was a Swedish tradition that Dad kept and didn't change until my siblings grew up and demanded a tree so that we could be like everyone else. Yes, and I also remember a when I few Christmases thought the joy forever gone. When I knew that never again would those loved ones gather in my home in that old se- I remember one tree that had candles on it. I know now that Dad tried hard to stay with the old, familiar Swedish customs, but eventually we kids tossed out the candle holders that clipped to the branches and put on strings of lights instead. Judy Wimmer Mr. and Mrs. LaMont A. Wimmer of South Jordan, are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Judy to James S. Buffmire. The young man is the son of Wallace R. Buffmire of Canyon Country, California and of Frances Buffmire, cure way. Those were days when the holiday was only a dream of happy days that would not come again, and, (for a short time), Christmas was just a big spending spree that left me unhappy and bitter. Oh, the lights we use today are a billion 'times safer, but still see a faint, sweet glimmer of those flickering candles and can catch vagrant whiffs of the smoke that lingered in the air as they burned. If I could, just once, I would use candles again on my tree. Just for Dad. But then . . . after I'd lived through them all, happy and sad . . . the day surprisingly became better than it ever was. For when all those past Christmases had been lived, loved and no longer possible, then and only then, did I turn within and find what the day really means. faster, brighter, easier and Salt Lake. The bride to be is a graduate of Granger high and her fiance graduated from William S. Hart high in California. They are planning a February 12th wedding to be held in the Shalamar Reception Center. I found it isn't the gifts love that prompts the gift. It isn't the parties . . . it's the love that makes you want to give or go to parties. It isn't the family gatherings . . . it's the love that turns mere relatives into a family. It isn't the carols . . . it's the love and warmth the carols awaken within us. remember, with nostalamost hurts, the year that gia that AW, who became my husband, brought me a cedar I I Dee and Ev Berger display just one of the four quilts that are to be given to their four sons today on Christmas. Are Made And Quilted Works-Of-AGiven By Murrayites, Dee And Ev Berger rt The true magic of Christmas is the gift of love in some tangible form. There is constantly, something within each one of us that is never satisfied until we can place something visible into the hands of our beloveds. Words are too weary with the days repeating of our love, so we seek for the perfect gift that tells at a glance the age-ol- d words, I love you. This year, representing the thousand other men and women whose love flows out into creative artistry, is DeLora Dee (Mrs. C. E. Ev) Berger of Murray. Years of patient, painstaking labor is revealed in four beautiful quilts she is giving to her four sons this Christmastime. Oh, every stitch in those quilts tells of my love for them because it would be too much work otherwise, she truthfully tells. The quilts which are museum quality will go from Dee and Ev to Duaine of California, Blaine in S. L. County, Mike in North Ogden and Harold Butch of Riverton. They . . . and their wives . . . will be the lucky owners of these works of art on this Christmas day. No, she laughs, they arent the kind of quilts anyone could make on their first try.
