As part of their duties, each worker spends an average of 16 to 20 hours per week reading Spanish microfilm that has been received from old parish documents and vital statistic records such as births, blessings and weddings. They work in four hour shifts, with each film being read by three different people to insure ac- curacy in translation. So far 5,516 names have been approved by the Church Genealogical Society in Salt Lake and an additional 15,288 names have been submitted for approval. SALT LAKE. A new series of defensive driving courses offered by the Utah Safety Council will begin in early January at Murray 5440 So. State, as well as at the council training centers in Salt high, Lake. Sessions high will at Murray start Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. Others will get under way Jan. 3, 5 and 8 at the council training centers. On the 5th and 8th, sessions will begin at 7 p.m., while the class hour for the course starting on the 3rd is 9 a.m. The registration fee for the course is $12 per person. The course involves eight hours of classroom instruction on professional techniques for avoiding auto accidents. The course is part of a continuing campaign by the Utah Safety Council to reduce highway deaths, injuries and pro-per- ty damage by educating drivers in defensive driving techniques.
