Show 4B WEST VALLEY VIEW t Thursday, Nov. 6, 1980 Daughters And Son Honor Catherine Smith For Her Eightieth Birthday Celebration Maynards Honored At Golden Anniversary George and Golda Maynard will be celebrating their golden Wedding anniversary with an open house at the JordanElle Reception Center on 2295 West 8200 South in West Jordan. The celebration will be held from 5 until 8 p m. on November 9. The son and daughters of Catherine Solomon Smith will hold an open house in honor of her 80th birthday on November 8 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Majestic Meadows At the State Fair several years however, her talents were recognized as she was the only lady out of five people to win a cow milk-- 1 ing contest at Bob Barker Senior Citizens Day. Catherines prize was a free trip to Los Angeles to appear on Bob Barkers show. She flew first class to Los Angeles and had all her expenses paid. Catherine lived for 56 years at 3775 West 4700 South. Two years ago she decided to move to Majestic Meadows Mobile Home park and she said its the best move shes ever made. Im so happy here, she tells. I swim every day in the summer and attend all the parties and the clubs they have. Its great. She has four children living, two are deceased. Those living are Jean Clark of Bountiful, Charles J. Vowaller of Colorado Springs, Katy McQuivey of Downey, Idaho and Vicki Lee Pad-docof Riverton. She has two sisters and one brother living. Their names are Rena Petersen, Melvin Solomon, both from Granger and Maree Dale of California. To round out the family there are 27 grandchildren, 31 and 5 ago, Clubhouse located at 1055 West 4500 South. They are inviting friends, relatives and neighbors to come and join in wishing her a happy birthday. Catherine was born in Salt Lake to Alfred E. and Catherine Solomon on November 8, 1900. In May of 1904 her family moved to Granger and there she spent her childhood. Catherine remembers when there k Catherine Solomon Smith Mr. and Mrs. George Maynard George with his new car in 1930 George Raymond Maynard was born on October 12, 1901 in South Jordan. He was the sixth child born to Bill and Jane Shields Maynard. Golda Butterfield was born on September 5, 1911 in Taylorsville and was the second daughter of Asa K. and Catherine Channings Butterfield. Her early childhood was spent in Murray and Holladay although she also lived in Bluffdale. George and Golda were married November 10, 1930 at the Salt Lake County courthouse. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Novem- ber 10, 1979. When the Maynards were first married they lived wth Goldas parents due to the depression. Later in their marriage they moved to Riverton and George worked for the U.S. Mine in Bingham. He worked for Portland Cedar Livestock Mines and a short time at the Butterfield Mines in Park City. He worked at the Vi Point Mine in Box Elder and Kennecott Copper where he retired in 1972. The Maynards have lived in Burley, Idaho; Park City and Riverton. They now reside in Kearns where they are very active in the Kearns 12th Ward. Golda has been a visiting teacher for 21 years and George is a home Golda in her twenties. teacher and high priests president's assistant. Since his retirement, George spends many hours in the garden. In fact, his family states, every day that its nice, George is outside. Golda loves to cook, especially for her 18 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Maynard have four children: Lawrence Kenneth of Midvale; Lila Jean (Mrs. Clark) Frand-seof West Jordan; Eugene Lamar and Myrlin. A of West Valley City. Put '4 cup and 1 tablespoon margarine or butter and the onions into a large pot. Turn heat to high. Cook, stir until it simmers. Turn heat to low.
