Our crossing guards love the children and are eager to help them. Sandy Mamales, PTA 4620 president, said, West is a very busy street for children to cross, and the PTA has been working closely with the school for many months in an effort to have some form of protection installed for the children. Principal Jim Cushing and the PTA president called daily for police protection for the children, she pointed out. Police patrols watched the area closely, noting the numbers of children involved and the amount of traffic in the area. PTA workers assisted by helping children to cross the street at designated points - not -- always easy, since many prefer to cross at school and the other at 5215 South, offers safety for children as they cross the busy street, Mrs. Mamales said.
