No pertan is physically, or mentally identical to any other person. If . we have faith in God we must realize. that He had a purpOse in designing us so that no person is like any other' person, each person is an individual. Liberty Means freedom, freedom to choose good or to choose evil, to choose wisely or unwisely. This inequality among persons is a law of nature, a law , which is just as necessary and unchangeable as any other natural law. This particular law is known as the "law of variation." and from the unrestricted per-- :alien of this law comes all human progress. It permits people to think and act '77 diffescntly; ' It permits existence of misers and philanthropists, saints and sinners: rich and poor. It permits each oerson to seek a job which is must to his talents. It encourages voluntary division of labor: with maximum effiicency our social structure would be like an ant, '4114to. 41 ... . . , .' . . - 1 ., - , , , eei.,,,, .. 0 , , 4fittirlt - , . ' . k in America those who have no faith in are planners of socialized and lation, who would take the money away from those who have earned it to those who have not earned it. They would create a welfare state, they subsidize cheap electricity for people who live in Tennessee or the Pacific Northwest but they tax heavilje all the successful citizens to pay for the cheap electricity. The welfare state pays many millions of dollars to potato growers, then destroys the potatoes. The planners are enemies of liberty, and the laws they enact always involve more government, more government ownership and operation of the means of production, more interference by government in the distribution of what individuals have produced, and less freedom of choice for individuals. The "planners" tell the people how to live under regimentation. Against a background of my many years of service an the Navy, I make this declaration: I do not fear the Russian Army, or the atom bontb, nearly so much as I fear the planners' concept of using the law to relieve individuals,of the responsibility for their own welfare and to deprive them of their freedom of choice. We can all see the danger of ;.military threat to our freedom of choice, if we are attacked we will fight, and we will win. But few of us appeartoim:insidious proceSs whereby we use our own laws and our own government to destroy our own liberties. It makes me wonder whether we are deliberately trying to destroy ourselves. We are moving in a dangerous course and the welfare state is even now well Organized. We sheuld right now restate our unbounded faith in our Constitution. and we should always remember that our Constitution was designed to protect the freedom of the smallest ts of those possible minority against the-acdestroy us hold firmly to the fundamental spirit e American tradition of governmeTit. ----- give --- wnPet,h:eyt:decisio.::vitheounscotofrnethiareelsrivt.oarperpolatimi: mune um I j THE COVER this week features a group oof. leprechauns made by Mrs. Eulalia Stuart Stauffer.
