Show DESERET NEWS AND TELEGRAM, Spit lake! Gty, Tuesday; February Movies To Be Shown 'v Gadabout's Diary Ufahn's Production Is Oscar Nominee Maryin, Wayne Team Again By SHEILAHGRAHAM A motion pirtureshortsubject produced by a former-UtahIs among films which will be considered for Oscars during the race which opened Monday with announcement of Academy Award nominations. The production is The Face cof Jesus," which was made under the supervision of Dr. John D. Jennings, son of Mrs. C B. t, Huntress of 15 S. Salt Lake. It was one of five films nominated for the best achievement in live action short subjects. The Face of Jesus shows a noted sculptor fashioning the face of Christ as he was believed to have looked at different stages in his life. Dr. Jennings and the sculptor studied hundreds of pieces of art to arrive at what 'they believed represented the best depictions of Jesus. The Face of Jesus has been shown in many theaters In the Mountain West, but some of those nominated for major awards have not. Theatermen of the area were making arrangements Tuesday for exhibiting those that have not yet been seen here. The two movies which tied for the largest number of West Side Story" and Judgment At Oscar nominations have not been seen here yet Neither has Nuermberg Summer and Smoke, which won a nomination as best actress for Geraldine Page. Nor has 'The Mark, which brought Stuart Whitman a nomination as best actor.- Summer and Smoke, a typical Tennessee Williams drama, will open soon at the Capitol Theater. West Side Story" will begin its roadshow engagement late an March at the South East Theater. Neither Judgment At Nuremberg" nor The Mark has been set in Utah theaters as yet. Oscar Names of two nominees for the were inadvertently left out In Mondays story listing nominominees are. nations In major categories. Spencer Tracy (Judgment at Nuremberg); Charles Boyer (Fanny); Paul Newman (The Hostler); Maximilian Schell (Judgment at Nuremberg), and Stuart Whitman (The Mark). Spencer Tracy will be competing for an Oscar for the eighth time in his long career. He is the only actor ever to yvin two consecutive Academy Awards for best actor. His portrayals in Boys Town and Captains Courageous won him Oscars. If he wins best actor award for his part as an American judge at the trial of Nazi judges, he will become the first film actor to win three major Oscars. A surprise nominee was Whitman, a rugged, weatherstar who has been seen in such movies as beaten, Hound Dog Man, Francis of Asissi and the Utah-madwestern, The Comancheros. The picture that won him the best actor nomination, The Mark, he said during an interview In Moab this summer, is a drama of intense emotional qualities. There will be some disappointments m the nominations. One of the major ones might be that Walt Disneys Parent Trap and the excellent acting of Hayley Mills were not considered for major honors. Other disappointments might be overlooking Anthony Quinn and David Niven of Guns of Navarone, Roz Russell of Majority of One," and Maurice Chevalier of Fanny. Also, most of the selections represent serious drama, moments when a viewer can relax. has Only Fanny Otherwise, theres the tense adventure of Allied soldiers on a mission to destroy a Nazi gun in Navarone; the serious and significant trial of judges at Nuremberg; the seamy, unpleasant life of a billiard hustler, and the drama of gang warfare in New Yorks west side Winners of the Oscars will be announced during a nationally televisecf program April 9 n leading role with Wayne and Jimmy Stew art in Fords The Man Who Shot Liberty Lee also was with Wayne rfr the successful Comancheros Gina Lollobrlglda says she has no regrets about leaving After all.
