Show Entertainment Westminster men take the stage 10 Art & Alissa Finn Staff Reporter Twelve competitors and only one winner. Thats what it will come down to on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. Mr. Westminster is an annual event that lets the men of Westminster strut their stuff for a good cause. The proceeds will go to Utahs Rape Recovery Center. The event was first run by the mens basketball team in order to help out with V Day. The Residence Hall Association has now taken over. All 12 competitors will be included as a month in a calendar made to raise more money. This will be available for students to purchase at the event. In order for students to participate in the competition, they must be nominated by other students. During the competition there are three judges who are not announced until the day before the event. First, second and third place are given out. There is also an award for Mr. Congeniality. The competitors meet six times to practice their dance routines. Then, they work through their talents on their own. This year there are two returning competitors: senior Bryan Rucklos and senior Brandon Lloyd. Rucklos and Lloyd are also roommates. Rucklos said, competing against a friend and roommate adds a fun and competitive edge to the competition. Lloyd also thinks it makes for good competition. Well Bryan and I are great friends and great competitors and we dont let our feelings get in the way. Were going to give it all that weve got and the best man will win, which will be me. Rucklos said being involved with Mr. Westminster is one of the greatest college experiences he has had. Competing for a second time, I feel much more prepared for the stage atmosphere as well as what to expect from the question and answer section, Rucklos said. This is also Lloyds second year competing. Last year he won Mr. Congeniality. A few people nominated me again this year and I decided I would do it again, Lloyd said. Its always a fun time and we get to do a lot of fun and cra2y things but, at the end of the day its all going back to help the Rape Recovery Center, so its a nice and different way to give back. Group training for the event started Jan. 12 and will continue until the event on Jan. 29 in the Bill and Vieve Gore Auditorium in the Gore School of Business. I cant wait until the night of the competition, said communication major Meredith Nickels. I wasnt able to go last year, but the year before when I saw Jason Dunnigan stmt his stuff to Single Ladies, I dont know what could top that. Elise Katter, senior double majoring in accounting and finance, said she has gone to Mr. Westminster every year for the past three years and cant wait to see Rucklos and Lloyd competing against each other again. FORUMFORTNIGHTLY.COM Stressed out? Try intramural sports Eric Watson Staff Reporter The Westminster College Fitness, Wellness and Recreation Department offers a variety of intramural sports to help students alleviate the early onset stress. Adding intramural sports to an already crammed school schedule might seem extra stressful for some students, but many intramural leagues dont require a major time commitment from students, according to Laura Iverson,, assistant director of fitness, wellness and recreation. All the leagues are, at the most, four weeks long, Iverson said. So its not like its a semester-lon- g commitment.
