When I come back, what do I want to see here? Brown said. Brown has been involved with the strategic plan since :ting where fall 2012 when she was a junior. The plan was supposed to be complete in the fall of my senior year, so this was never intended to go beyond September 2013, Brown said. Now we are in spring of includmy senior year, and this is not something that I had ed in my plan of how to use my time of my last semester of my senior year. Brown didnt think it would be fair to anybody if the her person whos representing the student body did not give full commitment. In order to do the students justice and maintain a fair searched for anrepresentation of the student body, Brown other student representative. She recommended senior Brandon Lloyd to the Steering Committee. Brandon had participated at town hall meetings and has been involved in student leadership, so he seemed to fit the natural progression of the plan, Brown said. Since student-centr- ic learning is at the forefront, students should be actively involved. According to Lloyd, there have been significant developments on campus due to the schools last strategic plan, such as the Environmental Center and the Meldrum Science Center, and the committee is determined to see that the growth continues. Lloyd has been involved with the plan from the beginning through the presidents office. He helped arrange and participate in both town hall meetings. Lloyd is also involved in the progression of the strategic plan for the Gore School of Business, which is currently in progress alongside the school wide plan. There are representatives who worked on the draft of the strategic plan from every department. Each level of the Westminster community, including faculty, staff, administration, and students, have had the opportunity to submit their input for the committee. Brown and Lloyd represent the student population and all feedback that students give will eventually come back to them. Lloyd said not a lot of information has been sent out recendy about the strategic plan, but once the first draft is finalized, the students will be notified through email to submit their feedback to their student The Steering Committee The Steering Committee is a group of student representatives, faculty and staff from different campus departments overseeing the plan. The strategic plan is really just meant to help us adapt to a changing marketplace in higher education and making sure we are staying relevant in these changing times, Banks said. According to Banks, in order for students to have greater control over their education, discussions have focused on more opportunities for customizing majors, achieving a degree and relationship based education. When we say relationship-base- d, that of course includes the small class sizes, attention from the faculty and increased opportunity for mentoring and coaching throughout the campus experience, Banks said. We want to make sure that the culture education starts the of relationship-base- d day you walk onto campus and never ends even once you are an alumnus of the college. To ensure the success of the strategic plan, the Steering Committee is creating a Plan Oversight Committee. The committee will monitor the plans progress and make sure goals are being met. one-on-o- ne b |
