Show - JANUARY 4, THE FORUM 11 2012 rm 7 i Footloose Movie Review t Brittanyjohns Contributing Writer even attempt to remake a classic? Nothing can Why beat the original Footloose, so why even try? With that question in mind, my husband and I went opening night to see if director Craig Brewer could make an alternative version to fit modern times. To our surprise he did an excellent job of keeping the major highlights from the original. Although Brewer did a satisfying job at remaking the movie Footloose where the tape player was traded in for an iPod, you just cant beat the classic, said the audience at opening night of the 2011 version. If you havent seen the original movie, the storyline is about a big city boy named Ren who moves to a small town where reading certain books, dancing and listening to music are against the law. Ren wins the heart of the town ministers daughter, Ariel, who helps him stand before the city council to host a senior prom. In the end he gets the town to put on their dancing shoes and reminds them that this is their time. i i 1 4 f I ing for music videos for artist Justin Timberlake. His acting background has landed him roles in dance movies such as You got Served and Center Stage. I feel as though he should stick with The original, which was released in 1984, featured Kevin Bacon as Ren and Lori Singer as Ariel Moore. Nothing will ever compare to the dance scene of Kevin Bacon in the Lehi Factory. The emotion behind his dance moves were Mac-Corma- ck those roles. Julianne Hough, landing her first leading role as Ariel, nailed the dancing yet she too could improve on her acting skills. Born and raised here in Salt Lake City, Hough was born to dance. Landing her first acting role in Harry performed with passion.' I felt as though the 2011 edition was more of a choreographed dance show. I didnt feel the passion of the dance and the movement was not the movement that free-spirit- ed dancing should be. The Kenny Wormald (Ren 2011) factory dance scene felt like more of a performance rather than him going to an old warehouse and dancing his heart out. I felt as though I was watching a performance of dancing with the stars, said audience member Cole about the solo performance by Wormald. Even Kenny though Wormald nailed the accent, he lacked in his performance. Wormald was born in Boston, Massachusetts, where he Potter and the Sorcerers started dancing at age six. He started his career by dancing and choreograph Stone in 2001, she has come a long way since her role as a Hogwarts school girl. Since then she released her debut album in 2008 which topped the charts at 1 Billboard Country Album chart and 3 on the Billboard 200. But we might all recognize her from Dancing with the Stars on season four. Hough has a way of enticing you through her dancing. She outshines the original Ariel when it comes to taking the floor. Also she is a lot easier to look at than the original Ar iel, said Bryce Butterfield, audience member. Although the remake of Footloose danced its way to the top of the charts opening weekend, it fell short of the 1 spot to the movie Real Steel. Overall, it is worth price of a rental for a hours of entertainment, still, there will never be other Footloose like original. the few but an- the k i 4 Across I'VE GOT SOMETHING 1 Brag 6 Rank 2 ou I 11 Starchy tuber 14 Coincide - X u ce O LL.
