"N I Salt Lake City Bioneers Intern workshops, food, music, art, and plenty of time for conversation and connection. Each year, Salt Lake residents spend two rejuvenating days exploring the ways envi- ronmental, economic, and so- cial justice questions play themselves out in our community, homes and personal lives. This years conference will be held on Friday, Oct. 28th and Saturday, Oct. 29th in the Jew- ett Center. To register for Bi- E Paul Stamets bioneers and follow the online registration process. Join us Friday evening, Oct. 28th at 5:45 p.m. in the Jewett Center Atrium for our Share Fair event, where you can meet local organizations invested in sustainability issues in Salt Lake City. Also on the same evening, join us at 7 p.m. for the lecture by our free live keynote speaker, Nogie King, in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall in the Jewett non-pro- fit Center. The innovative speakers of this years conference offer a multitude of perspectives on different environmental issues. The following are short biographies and descriptions of the John Liu Chinese and journalist award-winnifilmmaker John Liu speaks about his experience of recording the immense environmental degradation of Chinas Loess Plateau. Live Keynote: Nogie King Nogie King is the founder of Sympatico Coaching, where she provides tangible results through a combination of somatic awareness, ancient scientific modern wisdom, breakthroughs and entrepreneurial thinking. Her free lecture on Friday, Oct. 28th will focus on humans connection to money and how we often define ourselves by money. King demonstrates how to shift this relationship with real-wor- ld money, both personally and professionally, into a more constructive connection. Bioneers offers a great opportunity for engaging conversations and helps foster the expansion of environmental Two years ago at the University of Utah students gathered from all over the city to experience the Red Fest concert event. Opening the concert series was the Seattle rap group Blue Scholars. Now the Blue Scholars are coming back to Salt Lake City on Oct. 24 to headline their own show. On Monday night the group will perform at both Kilby Court at 7 p.m. and Urban Lounge for 21 and over at 9 p.m. Tickets at both venues cost $16 online and $17 at the door. Communication major and Seattle native Gary Abbre-der- is has seen the group over 30 times. He says that the Blue Scholars music describes what Seattle is really about and they speak true logic. Their lyrics are more intellectual than chemistry majors thoughts, Abbrederis said. He even believes that they have made history with The smartest raps ever made. Environmental science major Desi Diselrod says that she saw them two years ago when they came, and they put on an unbelievable show. They really got involved and made everyone dance during the show. I am so excited to see them again, she said. The Seattle duo has performed at major music festivals nity. The national speakers are world leaders in their fields and are heading the forefront of scientific and social change in our world. They have shared the stage with artists such as: Immortal Technique, Little Brother, and even Kanye West. On June 17, 2011 the group released their new album titled Since then Cinemetropolis. the group has declared that they are back on tour so they can show their fans their new sound. Fans from many universities enjoy the message Blue scholars tells in their musical lyrics. Louisiana State University junior Lauren Manuel says that Blue Scholars has a good beat. r She said theyre clever and they say what their true opinions are. They bring a universal message that people everywhere can connect with, Manuel said. She also believes in the groups activism for youth, The groups lyrics have empowered students to be proactive in their music choices, veering away from the mainstream tunes. Freshman Andrew Hage-dor- n says that the Blue Scholars music is stuff that pertains to real life, not like on the radio where the music is just about money and sex. They are a lot more underground and they deal with stuff that actually matters to me, said Hagedorn. Jeff Kmetz, accounting and Womens Haircut, and Style $40 Mens Cuts $20 finance major, says that the Blue Scholars has a chill upbeat sound that is not mainstream. While arts administration major Anders Sigourney says he listens to them from time to time and likes the overall message. Kmetz is excited for the group to come back to Salt Lake City. The concert is probably going to be a banger, said Kmetz. of Will Sartain, both Kilby Court and Urban Lounge, says he is excited to have the Blue Scholars come perform at both places, and he thinks it will be a good show. Sartains goal for both Kilby Court and Urban lounge is to provide a space where people can make art and music. Music venues are really important to a city because of its influence for progressive thinking and making a city more thriving, said Sartain. 'Mackenzie Sophomore Chemushin says that she is going to see Blue Scholars at Kilby Court because it will bring more music diversity to Salt Lake City.
