Markov attributes learning about the college to the College Boards Web site. The nonprofit organization assists students in taking the SAT as well as finding colleges throughout the United States. Westminster was one of two schools that came up with Markovs search criteria and had the scholarships he needed. Most of my friends and family were surprised, said Markov. The only thing they knew about Salt Lake City was the Olympics and the Mormon religion. Still, he wasnt daunted by the religious history of Utah, and time, he wanted to be in a during this short four-ye- www.thewestminsterforum.com ar quieter place where he could look out and see trees and flowers instead of buildings. Westminster is the best place to do that, said Markov. Ill have time to live in a big city later. Currently in his third year at Westminster, Markov is excited about the possibilities that open up with the International Student Association. He says the purpose for the association is to motivate and encourage students to become one and resist any division based on culture, education level or any other criteria. We have met three times so far, and is quite a diverse group, said Markov. Theres even one student from Arizona! The association will vote for leadership in an election on Friday, Oct. 26. Between now and the end of the semester, activities will be- held that focus on introducing the students to various cultures. Beginning in January, the group intends to form a system to help international students with legal issues, approach international alumni about raising money to form scholarships to aid international students and petition Westminster faculty and administration to broaden their curricula to include more internationally focused courses. The International Student Association meets every Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Gore 131. For more information, contact Milko Markov at mtm0124westminstercollege.edu. (Puzzle solutions are available there!)
