Since the time of the tabling of the request, we have contacted hundreds of citizens with the purpose of determining what their opinions might be and we have concluded very definitely that the preponderance of opinion of the people as evidenced by voice and written petitions was in favor of granting a of gas franchise. This would then place the choice of the use or non-us- e with each individual citizen. We then concluded that in the interest of saving time and election expenses, that we could rightfully make the decision that we should immediately formulate an ordinance affecting the granting of the above mentioned franchise. Another reason prompting the above action, is the fact that the ordinance which was attached to the petition had not been submitted for study to us and that upon examination of same, we found that it was not favorable to the City and that it would be much easier for us to negotiate with the gas company and work out an ordinance favorable to us rather than to resort to the cumbersome procedure of amending and negotiating the ordinance after it has been submitted in its original form. In view of the foregoing, it is the Councils intention to enact its own ordinance at its regular meeting, Monday evening, March 14, 1966. those who may oppose the above action by us, the statutes of this state provide for those who oppose the action, if there be any who wish to challenge it, a thirty-da- y period in which to enter any protests. We have taken this course of action in good faith and with the full assurance in our minds that we have acted in the interest of the vast majority of the citizens of Price.
