Mention was made of the fact that installation of a booster was tried last fall by residents at Wat-tiand the use of the booster at that time wrecked the signals being received by all of the distribution systems named above, including even the system in East Carbon. At Wattis, when it was discovered that the boosted was wrecking the reception of all the cable systems throughout the county, authorities there installed a cable system and furnished a television signal exactly similar to that presently in use in Price, Helper, and East Carbon. The residents of Wattis have found the cable system far superior to the reception they were with the unlicensed receiving s, co-axi-al booster. At the present time only residents of Wellington and Miller Creek do not make use of cable television systems and residents of these areas, for the most part, Gerri Afton Ruggeri, James M. It was pointed out that if Carbon county commissioners did succeed in installing boosters within the county and thus wrecked all of the present cable systems, the people of the county might find themselves without any television at all if the Federal -- Communications Commission clpsed the booster down. In such a case as this, the present tcable systems would have been completely wrecked, and the investment in the present cable system ifrould be lost entirely.' It was pointed out that Section 2, Chapter 2, Title 11, Utah Code Annotated 1953, as amended in 1957, permits .only the use of transmission facilities operating by means of translator stations, and that only translator stations are authorized by the Utah state law for the purpose of rebroadcasting television signals. The television law of 1957 states that the county commissioners can not put in television systems unless the present reception of TV signals is impossible without special equipment and unless adequate, economical and proper television is not available to the public by private sources. At the directors meeting of the Price Community TV, Inc., a motion was passed instructing their attorney to meet with attorneys from East Carbon TV Company, Helper Community TV, Inc., and Vetere TV, for the purpose of- determining whether .an injunction could be secured restricting the county commissioners from expending money for such a system and were given authority to secure such an injunction immediately if it appeared desirable to do so. The directors also were in structed to write each of the groups named above to explain the position taken by those attending the meeting and to ask whether these other systems might desire to participate in legal action so as to ascertain that the present system of TV reception might not be wrecked by installa tion of the boosters being tested by the county. Coal exports to Europe in 1954 amounted to nearly 1D.5 million tons, or enough to fill a line of freighters 200 miles long.
