The events will include bronc riding, cloverleaf racing, calf roping, barrel racing, Brahma cow riding and 6pud racing along with many other attractions. Gate prizes will be offered including a portable radio for first prize, bill of groceries for second and a pen and pencil set for third prize. A raffle will also be staged with a rifle, sleeping bag, three-burn- er stove, groceries, wall tent cooking kit, gas lantern and refrigerator as the prizes. .. Sun-nysi- Stringer, member of the Grand Junction, Colorado, high school football team, suffered a fractured cervical in a football game here last Friday night against Carbon high. The young halfback, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Stringer, Grand Junction, was injured when he tackled Dick Morley, Carbon fullback, who had just caught a pass. Stringer fell over backwards with Morley falling on top of him. He was knocked unconscious. ty He was taken to the Price hospital and the following day was transferred to a Grand Junction (hospital. His coach, Ed Whalley, stayed over at the hospital with the injured player. When young Stringer recovered consciousness at the Price hospital Friday night he asked, Did I get him? When he was told he had, he replied, "Im ready for the whole gang of them right now. The player is a senior and this is his first year in high school football. Members of the Wellington Mountaineer Riding Club completed their summers activities by staging a rodeo at their newly-lighted rodeo arena east of Wellington Saturday evening. This was the first after-dar- k rodeo the club has staged and for the first time under the new lights which were installed recently. This lighting system has been declared by many to be the best they have seen on any field around this area. A large crowd gathered for the rodeo which consisted of 12 main events with two or three sections in each event. Many prizes, donated by Carbon county business firms, were awarded the winning contestants in the matches. (Prizes awarded were as follows: Saddle Bronk Riding First prize, a $10.00 order of groceries at the P. & B. Market, won by Blake Hanna; second prize, 10 gallons of gas and one grease job at Glens Service, won toy Ted Siaipares; third prize, one case of household lubrication, given toy the Utah Oil Refining company, and won 'by D. Tidwell. Bull Riding First prize, Arabian stallion service, given by Roy Campbell, won by Blake Hanna; second prize, one ton of coal from the Eastern Utah Coal company, won toy Verdis Barker; third prize, hot oil treatment, shampoo and wave, given by Charlotte MoCourt, won by Jay Cook. Bareback Riding First prize, $5.00 in show tickets, given by the Towne Theatre in Wellington, won by Ted Siapares; second prize, two meals and a hunting knife, presented by Blondies Cafe and Motel, and won by Jay Cook; third prize, two months locker storage, given toy Wellington Locker, iwon by B. Palling. First prize, one Calf Roping sack of Omeline, presented by Price Commission company, won by Clyde Hansen; second prize, $5.00 in service from Kelly Garage, won toy Charlie Hanna; third prize 10 games free 'pool, at A. & A. Pettersson, county treasurer. The notices should have been mailed out earlier, Mr. Pettersson noted, tout due to the delay of the state tax commission In setting the state school levies the notices have been delayed. The taxes are due as of September 15 and will become delinquent at 12 oclock noon November 29, 1952. If not paid on or before that date a penalty equal to two per cent of the amount of the tax will toe added. In addition If paid after 12:00 noon on November 29, an advertising fee of 25 cents will be assessed. If the taxes remain delinquent into the following year at eight per cent penalty will toe levied and alter January 10, 1953 a sale and redemption lee of $1.00 will be charged. The notice received through the mail must 'be presented at the county treasurers office when payment is made. The county is not responsible for errors caused by taxpayers paying taxes on the wrong property and if paid by check, the check must not exceed the amount of the taxes. Referring to a Friday United Press release from the Defense Department asking for a national total of 47,000 draftees In November, General West said exact figures for Utah are not yet available. Utahs contribution to the national draft total in the past has lf been about of one per cent. According to the Defense Department,' the November figure is the same size as the October call. No branch of service except the Army plans a November draft. This month 30,000 are being inducted over the nation, the report said.
