Monday, they were in Pioche, NV, and attended the funeral services of Wayne Lyman. Darlene Bartholomew accompanied her daughter Pam Braithwaite, of Salina, to Provo Friday, and enjoyed the day with her. Sheldon and Vickie Mellor of Las Vegas, are enjoying this week in Fayette. Elise Mowers of Fruit Heights, was a weekend guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bown. Enjoying last week with Ivan and Bessie Mellor were their grandchildren, Adam, Brandon, Michael, and Jeremy Moore, of Orem. Also their son, Kurt of West Jordan enjoyed the weekend with them. Elder Cory Mellor, son of Carroll and Dann Mellor, returned home last week from his Mission in Seoul, Korea, and gave his mission report in Sacrament meeting. There were many relatives and friends to honor him and hear his report. 528-793- 2 A family dinner was held Sunday at the home of Bob and Janice Bown to honor their sot, Trent, on his 12th birthday. And his graduation from Primary. All their family members were there making a total of 33 who enjoyed the dinner and visiting together. The Fayette Ward Scouts held a yard sale at Rasmussens parking lot in Gunnison, to earn money so they could go to Maple Dell. All last week they were at Maple Dell with their leader, David Ashworth. While there they earned badges and also had a good time. The scouts were: Trent Bown, Joe Mellor, Rick Hammond, Mahonri Sorensen, Jed Bartholomew, Roger Tischner, and Jacob King. Last Wednesday, Milton and Ruby Hammond accompanied Robert and Carolyn Hammond, of Salmon, Idaho, to Mapleton, enjoyed the day visiting Marion and Vivian Tree, and family. Robert and Carolyn spent last week visiting in the valley with Mr. and Mrs. Mcquade Kearns, in Gunnison, and with Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hammond, in Fayette. zr Bessie Curtis, 81 Powell. She married Charles Tilman Nelson, June 4, 1930. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple June 4, 1937. He died December 13, 1939. She married Joseph Wilmer Curtis, December 28, 1944. He died June 22, 1978. She was a member of the LDS She served a Stake Mis- sion. She was employed by the Manti Parachute Factory during World War II. She also served Sevier County for 28 years in positions of Deputy County Recorder and County Recorder. Herchildren are: Gae and Dale Mangrum; West Jordan Utah: Colleen arid Don Nielsen, Gunnison, Utah; Ivo Curtis, Aurora, Utah; Marilyn and Terry Williams, Salt Lake City, Utah; Nadine Nelson Jorgensen Shaw, deceased. Also 13 Grandchildren; 5 Great-Grandch- Bessie N. Curtis dren; Sister. Marjorie Fuellenbach, Richfield, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughters; 1 brothcrand, 2sisters:Xdward Powell, Loma Ogden, Lottie Washburn. Funeral Services were held Monday, June 28, 1993 at 1 p.m. in the Aurora Second LDS Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Redmond Ceme- Territory. He served in combat duty in Europe during World War II, earning two Bronze star medals. He also earned the Silver Star for gallantry in action while he was assigned to General Pattons third U.S. Army. The French government also awarded Ray the Criox De Guerre for outstanding combat action in the liberation of France. A party honoring Fern Shaw's 80th birthday was held Sunday , June 27, 1993 at Carriage Court, Salina. Over 100 friends and family members attended to honor Fern, including her 2 brothers and sisters. A party observing Fathers Day, Ernest Bastian's birthday, and Ernest and Elaine's wedding anniversary was held recently. Their children and grandchildren were in attendance. Dianna Jeppson, of Corrine, Utah, is visiting her parents, Lawrence and Evelyn Mason. Mrs. Don E. Neilson attended a wedding reception in Flowell on June 26 to honor Rochard and Tess Robeson Woods. Carol and Arva Shaw were called and sustained as the new greeters for the First Ward of Aurora's LDS Church. The Aurora Youth Council has Indeseveral fun events set for-th- e pendence day weekend, and encourages everyone to attend. On Saturday, July 3, the annual celebration will be held at Aurora West Park, 9 Tammy Johnson - Rita Curtis, SLC; Mrs. Juanita Swanson; Jerold Marx, of SLC; Mr. and Mrs. Marty Sorensen, Price; Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Heath. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lopshire were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Blackwell, of Marysvale. Mr. Black-we- ll spoke in Salina Third Ward Sacrament Meeting on Sunday, on the topic of Scouting. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Lindsay has been Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Lindsay, of Big Fork, Montana. They spent about 2 weeks here. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Nick Shahecn were Buck, Dani, Bron and the twins, Kalli and Karri Shaheen, all of St. George. Then Bo Shaheen and Mandi Shaheen, of St. George are here spending the summer and working. Tom Osmond spent a day last week visiting Mrs. Evelyn Kiesel. He came to see Marsha. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Earl Steiger were Megan Anderson, their granddaughter, from Delta, and Megans friend, JoLeen Wright, of Hinckley. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Shaun Jensen was Angela Woolsey, of Reedley, CA, and while here they all attended the wedding of Corey Jensen, of Ephraim, and his bride, Arleen Otten, of Sterling. 529-358- 4 with games, rides, races and fireworks. Monday activities will see an early morning breakfast at the city park. Other activities including games, races and lunches will follow. It promises to be a weekend full of fun and excitement for all. Ray Nielsen dies at his home Former Utah Representative Ray Nielsen, who served House District 69 for 20 years, died recently at his home, in Fairview, Ut. Rep. Nielsen had retired from public office following his tenth term in December. His main interests were in areas of natural resources, public safety and transportation. A Fairview native, he graduated from North Sanpete High and then spent time working in the CCCs before enlisting in the Army Corps of Engineers. During the next 20 years he served in Alaska, Europe, South America and North Africa He helped build the ALCAN Highway while serving in Alaska and the Yukon Mrs. Karren Glover and Mrs. Davis-famil- y Joy Robinson held the John N. reunion June 25, 26,27. John N. and Minnie Davis were married 100 years ago, February 1, 1893 in the Manti Temple. Over 100 descendants attended the Manti Temple Friday night, June 25. Then Saturday, more than 220 descendants attended a family dinner at the Salina City Park. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ken Glover were Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Church, MacKenzie and Saman, all of SLC; Mr. and Mrs. Page Peterson, Dani, Tami, and Dane from SLC; Mr. and Mrs. Doug Bleazard, from Logan; Kathy Glover, Provo; and Kelly Glover, of Cedar City. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Robinson and attending the reunion were Mr. and Mrs. Rod Nehring and family, Michigan; Mrs. Rosemary Daniels and family. Bountiful; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Pickett and family, Redmond; Mr. and Mrs. Rick Robinson and family, Richfield. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Clark, Orem, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Davis and family from Bountiful visited both families. A family reunion was held at the home of Valdo and Joy Heath on June 12, 1993. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Marx, Ogden; Mrs. 529-735- Cindy Andreason - Bessie Powell Nelson Curtis, 81, of Aurora, Utah died June 24, 1993 in Provo, Utah. She was bom January 30, 19 12 in Glenwood, Utah to George Edward and Georgia Josephine Tuttle Church. 0. Evelyn Kiesel - A Ruby Hammond - iri rrffitm iiiTnuti While in South America, the Colombian government decorated Nielsen, then a Major, with the Order of Cordoba for his outstanding service. He retired from the service as a LL Colonel in 1958, then saw duty with the U.S. Department of State in the Sudan. While he had been stationed in Libya, North Africa, he met his wife, Mildred Bailie. The Nielsens returned to Sanpete in 1965 to retire. Seven years later Ray ran for the Legislative office in District 69 and won. As an advocate for rural Utah, for a number of measure worked he to enhance business and communities and provide economic incentive to businesses in impacted rural areas. He received many honors during his terms of office. Survivors include his wife, and three children: daughter Judith Akers, and sons Ray and Dennis; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, Carl, Arthur and Conrad. Alain Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Ashman were in Mesquite, Nevada Sunday to attend the Missionary Testimonial of their nephew, Tilman Hafen. Tilman is the son of Bryan and Dawn Hafen, and has been called to serve in the Chicago Mission. Thellafens have five sons all who have served missions and all 5 are Eagle Scouts. Dawn Hafen is the former Dawn Nelson, of Redmond. Friday night visitors at the Whitney Christensen home have been their son and wife, Leon and Nayna from West Valley City, and grandchildren Bryant and Tammy and their three sons, Tyson, Cory and Dustin from West Jordan. Recently, Gery and Lori and children were in Holden to attend a missionary farewell for Gery s uncle and aunt. They have been called to serve as the President of the Iowa, Dcs Moines Mission for the LDS Church. Also attending with the Rawlinsons was Gerys mother, Sharon and Jim Chrz, Napa, Idaho. Nancy Hampton was hostess to the Dessert Club. The ladies played Progressive Rummy with prizes being awarded to Patsy Hampton, Leslee Nelson and Nancy Hampton. Thursday afternoon, 5 adult leaders and 13 boys started out on a 14 mile backpack hike down the Escalante Narrows. They had a great time, hiking in water, playing games and doing a little repelling. Everyone made it back safe and sound with lots of stories to tell and things they would do different when they go again. The Salina Stake Young Women attended their annual camp Riila 529-755- 2 at Squaw Hollow this past week. The first night was a little chilly, but things warmed up after that. They all had a wonderful time, learning a lot about themselves and about the church. The leaders from Redmond were a little tired but said they would do it again. Congratulations to Launa Learning, daughter of Lisa and Gary Learning. She took third place in Power Tumbling at the Summer games held in Cedar City this week. Also congratulations to Ryan Williams, son of Burke and Tcry-Ly- n Williams, who took a gold medal in gymnastics at the Summer Games. Steve and Lorilie Jensen, former Redmond residents, now residing in Elko, N V were here for a short visit this past weekend. Visiting Jean and UDell Johnson has been two of Jeans daughters, Patty Maronis and children, Aurora, CO, and Debby Mon-so- n and children, Anahime, CA. Also spending Sunday with the Johnsons was Valerie Hansen and children, of Midvale. The Johnsons spoke in Sacrament Meeting Sunday and a family dinner was held after at the Johnson home. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Willardson were recent visitors at the home of Helen Willardson. Bonnie Miller spent Fathers Day visiting Rulonand Betty Miller. Joshua Gale, son of Randy and Vicki Gale graduated from Primary and was advanced to the office of a Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood. Tammy and Trisha Johnson were in Fillmore Saturday evening to attend the garden reception of Kelly Dearden. Dee Sorensen - Jim and Paula Bown and their children Sarah and Elizabeth visited with Sharon and Quay Mecham and family and James and Barbara Bown and other family members in the area. They were here three days in their transition from Iowa to San Diego. Nancy Lee Boore and children Stephanie, Allen and Benjamin enjoyed spending a few days in the Salt Lake area visiting with family members. Trent and Raelene Cowley and children Melissa, Justin and Matthew are here visiting with Richard and Phyllis Cowley and Joe and Logan and other families members in the area. Tamra Peterson and children Amanda, Angela, Andrea, Katie, Whitney and David came and stayed overnight with Julia and Elwood Sorenson for Julies birthday on Friday. Julie also enjoyed visits from many other of her family and friends in honor of her special day on June 25. A bridal Shower was held for Tammie Sittre on Saturday with lots of family and friends attending. Norma Christensen, Faye Martell and daughter Cheryl and Brenda Hoffman Hatch of the Salt Lake area were here for the shower and to visit Edith Sorenson. Mary and John Anderson and their son Mark and wife Janna and their baby son visited with Cameron and Lucille Thorpe and spent Saturday night. Jamison Sorenson of Boulder City, Colorado returned home last week after spending some time visiting here with his grandparents Julie and Elwood and other family members in the area. Joan Gillies has been sustained as the Ward Teacher Development leader and first quarterly meeting was held Sunday with Joan giving the lesson. How does Utah stand on precipitation?
