Gary is a student at Snow and Rose a student at USU. Roses roommates Leslie Nelson of Brigham City and Patrice Bolyard of Murray and Jennifer Fisher of Big Piney Wyoming also enjoyed the weekend at the Bartholomew home Orin and Erda Willardson visited with Mrs. Izola Bartholomew over the weekend. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. John Bartholomew Wednesday and Thursday were their grandson Mike Li tie and his fiance Tanya of Alamo, Nv. Visiting Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Betty Mellor were her daughter Sharon Larson and children of Ephraim. Brad and Steven Bolinder of Grantsville enjoyed the weekend with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Darrrel Bolinder. Visiting last Monday with Mrs. Naomi Dorius was her sister Polma Wakovich of North Hollywood California and her daughter Bob and Joan Yates and daughter Miranda of Burbank, CA. They Gordon Willis Gordon Willis Anderson, age70 died March 18, 1993 in the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, he was bom April 27, 1922 in Mayfield, Utah to John Odean and Cora Matilda Anderson Anderson. Gordon was a member of the LDS Church. He served his country during World War II for three years, from December 1942 to April 1945. He fought with the 180th Infantry in the European Theater where he was wounded three separate times. Gordon spent his lifetime in Mayfield. He was well respected by all who knew him, and was a very thoughtful and caring person. He touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed. He took great pride in the beauty of his garden and home. He had a great love for the mountains and the outdoors. He will be remembered for his community service and helping hand for others. He is survived by two sisters, Matilda Jensen of Mayfield and LaRee Hammond of Fayette; three sister in laws, Erma Anderson and Renee Morrill of Mayfield and Doreen Anderson of Gunnison. He is also survived by many special, caring nieces and nephews. He was Tammy Johnson - 528-793- 2 brought their daughter Lori Yates to the Mission home and she will serve a mission in Brazil. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harrop attended a family birthday party for Mrs. Royal Harrop in Roy Sunday afternoon. The little ladies is 83 yearsyoung. He was bom October 15, 1918 in Ephraim, Utah to Roger C. and Mildred Bradford Odell, He married Anna Ramona Sorenson, December 27, 1938 in Manti. Later sealed in the Manti 1989. Temple. She died November 2, He married Elizabeth Caine AZ. May 30, 1992 in Tucson, He had been a letter carreid with the US Postal Service; had been a foreman with McDonald Douglas, and Thiokol Company and worked in many years in the sugar factory Gunnison. He was a graduate of Manti He High School, and Snow College. Tuesday, March 23, marked the end of the third quarter of the school year. Grades will be coming out soon. Also on the calendar for NSMS is an assembly to be presented during science classes. North Sevier Middle School reports a busy schedule for upcoming weeks. A drug and alcohol "Ad" contest began on Monday, March 22 Many young ladies, members of the SunShine Cloggers, under the instruction of Bella Christensen and Natalie Christensen, went to Monroe on Saturday, March 20, to compete in the Utah Open Clogging Championships. The competition was tough, and the girls did really well. The girls competed individually in Free Style and in teams according to their age and ability. Tally of the final standings was not available at press time. Congratulations to Miss Deborah Johnson, our new Miss North Sevier, who was crowned Saturday evening at North Sevier High School. Deborah was one of ten beautiful and talented young ladies vying for the crown, and all are winners. 'As a reminder, Kindergarten registration for next year has been set for Tursday, March 25, at Salina Elementary. Students and parents from Aurora and Salina are scheduled to register from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and students and parents from Redmond will register from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. The future students will go into the kindergarten classrooms for a preview of next years activities while the parents do the paper work. If you have a child who will be attending kindergarten next year, of ir you know of a child that will be, please remind them about registration day. Its a lot of fun, and an important step for them. She was with a group of Varsity Scouts from Loa that played in the tournament. The Redmond Ward held its Birthday party Tuesday evening. Norma Roberts gave a short lesson before the meal was served. The meal was a potato bar with many different toppings and jelly roll for dessert. The program was very entertaining with songs from Willie Nelson and Julio Eglasies impersonators. She married David C. Mitchell on May 8, 1988 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. Noreen was a retired Nurses Aid. Survivors are her husband David of Sandy, sons Brian Jerry, Mark Reed and David Kirk and foster son Dough Ashman, all of Sandy. Mother MaRee J. Peterson and a sister Mechell P. Reeve, both of Rose Park. She is also survived by many cousins and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by sons Kendall Raymond and Joshua Grant. By her father Kendall Peterson and by a brother Kirk K. Peterson. Funeral services were held Thursday March 18, 1993 in Midvale, Utah. Bishop Earnest T. Behuin conducted the services. Mary and Whitney Christensen along with their sons and wives, Leon and Nayna, Paul and Pauline from West Valley, have spent the past week in Quanah, Texas, visiting their other son, Boyd. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Johnson and children traveled to St. George Thursday evening to attend the wedding of Tammy s brother, Kelly Oyler and Melissa Lee on Friday morning in the St. George Temple. They also attended the wedding reception for the young couple that evening before returning to Redmond Saturday morning. The Johnsons visited with Jody and Jill Johnson in Cedar City on the way to 529-755- served with the U.S. Marines during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart He was a High Priest and active in the LDS Church. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and fishing, and was an avid rock hound. Jay Thomas Lovell, 69 Jay Thomas Lovell, 69, died March 19, 1993 in Provo, Utah. He was born December 16, 1923 in Shelton, Idaho to James William and Bertha Barnyard Lovell. He married Lois Jean Riding. Later divorced. He married Donna Averett February 5, 1955 in Elko, Nevada. Marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He was a professional truck driver and received awards for 29 years accident-fre- e driving. Survivors include his daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Steven Madsen, Kaysville; Carol and Clark Young, McKinley ville, CA; Cinda Sue and Clark Layton, of Layton; Mary Ann and Newell Hatch, of Aurora; June and Clark King, of Springville. Also 22 Grandchildren; 23 Brother, James Lovell, Rigby, Idaho; Sisters, Mrs. Ida May Kristiansen, SLC; Mrs. Alta Christianson, Napa, Idaho. Visiting at the home of Mrs. Evelyn Kiesel has been Mr. and Mrs. Steven Kiesel and sons Dennis and Brady of Henderson, NV. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kiesel and other family members and friends. Visiting with Jean Jensen has been Lloyd Gold from Murray. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shaw and family of Sandy and Mr. and Mrs. Rick Hendickson and their new baby boy from Logan have been Shepard. While here they met with Mr. and Mrs. Ferald Mason and family of Aurora and traveled to the Richfield Care Center to show the new baby to Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Shepard who are the Great Great Grandparents. While at the Care Center they presented a program for all the people at the Center. John and Virginia Home have returned to their home after spending three weeks in Yucca, Az with John and Ruby Bishop from St. Anthony, Idaho, Lloyd and Lena Gallbraith, from Rexburg, Idaho. On the way back John and Virginia traveled with Lena and Lloyd as far as Ely , N V where Lloyd and Lena went on to Idaho. John and Virginia went to Delta and spent the night there with A1 and Esther Jenkins. Esther fixed a birthday dinner for her days 81st birthday which was March 5, then John and Virginia returned home to Salina. Rilla Dee Sorensen Suzanne and Jim Sanders and family attended a baseball tournament in Kanab last week. Christian is playing in the G VHS team and Jim is coaching the Junior Varsity Team. Jay and Stella Lee Jensen and their daughter, Catherine and Kendall Bartholomew and children Rhonda and Chris flew to San Antonio, Texas to spend a week visiting Doug and Teresa Frandscn, and Tammie, Jessica and Joshua. They enjoyed listening to Jessica play the piano at the concert hall in downtown San Antonio, going on the River Walk, and visiting Sea World, Fiesta, Texas, Corpus Christi, and Laredo, Mexico. Tamra Peterson and Amanda, Angela, Trent, Andrea, Katie, Whitney and David, of Pay son visited on the weekend with El wood and Julia Sorenson. On Friday evening Julie and Tamra attended a session and dined out in honor temple of Elwoods birthday, along with Ted and Kathy Christensen, Don and Denise Hill, Jolyn and Steve Camp and Marshall Sorenson and Ruth Rosen vail. Rhonda, Emily and Maghan Mecham, daughters of Quay and Sharon Mecham , participated Saturday in the National Federation Music Festival held in Ephraim. Each of the girls played two selections and received superior ratings. Congratulations to Sara Sanders, daughter of Suzanne and Jim d, 528-794- 8 Sanders on being chosen as a cheerleader for GVHS for next year. Tryouts were held last Thursday. Congratulations are also in order for Melissa Neal, daughter of Janice and Bemon Neal on her engagement to Matt Long, of Aurora. Brett, Steven and Mitchell Heath, sons of Sandra and Joey Heath participated in two wrestling tournaments held Friday and Saturday in Gunnison and Salina. Brett placed Steven 4th in both tournaments. placed 3rd and 4th, and Mitchell placed 2nd and fourth. Leland and Donna Vee Sorenson attended the baseball game between East Millard and Gunnison on Thursday night to watch their grandson Kel play. Kel is the son of Steve and Patti Sorenson, of Kanosh and was the starting pitcher for East Millards Jr Varsity Team. Essie and Lenoir Sorenson were happy to have daughter Lois Jackson and granddaughter Andrea visit with them over the weekend. Nancy Bertelson visited with Arva Lee Bertelson and family over spring break from Utah State Uni1 ' ' versity. Judith Gubler of Manti who is Music teacher at Gunnison High was the speaker at Sacrament Meeting. She told of her experiences serving a mission in Bulgaria and also sang a couple of hymns in that language. Phyllis Cowley accompanied her. Public hearing on change planned for Manti streets The Utah Department of Transportation has scheduled a public hearing to discuss a proposal to modify the construction plans for the reconstruction of Manti Main Street. The hearing will be March 25, 1993 at 7:30 p.m. in the Manti City Building Auditorium, Manti. The changes will affect intersections at 500 North and 100 East and their traffic patterns. Old Main Street from 400 North to 500 North will be closed. Also proposed for closure is 500 North from US 89 to 100 East. The modification may also include the widening of US Route 89 to four lanes southbound from 600 south for abo 800 feet.
