Mav 15. 1991 11 'Buckle Up, codes a pain in the neck for reunion notices - Zip Zip Codes may have been a boon to the postal authorities, but they have often worked a hardship on the invitations committee for the GVHS Alumni Reunion. The affair is scheduled for May 25. Committee chairman Rhea Caldwell Nelson of the class of 1953, and her committee on reservations, have struggled to obtain, not only addresses, but correct zip codes for all alumni. Former students who live in cities using more than one zip number have been the cause of the most difficult problem. Another cause are address changes of many. Invitations sent by bulk mail will not be forwarded nor returned to sender if the address or zip is not correct. Ms. Nelson feels that is the reason she is getting word that some individuals have not received the letter of invitation. Contact of more then 280-- 0 f America' week is alumni has been attempted by mail andor in person. It is virtually impossible to get the addresses of everyone, but an honest effort has been made. Mrs. Nelson suggest that family members contact each other to verify notification so reservations can be made in time to attend the affair. Caterer Carl MellorofLehi has stated that he can take care of an additional 50 people over the deadline count It is not necessary to return the registration form sent out if the sender prints names being paid for at the bottom of the check. Much enthusiasm is being expressed, and it is hopeful that the affair will be well attended. The dinner and program is to begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and should be over at 8:00 p.m. However later visiting throughout the building can continue after that CLOSER: Rhea Caldwell Nelson is busy with invitations that have not been received. Its easy to do - and your garden and the environment will both benefit if you start compost pile. The Average American family produces more than 1 ,200 pounds of organic garbage every year. About 70 of that garbage could be put to good use in the home compost pile. Comporting is the process of turning organic material - from grass clippings to apple cores into rich fertilizer. This doesnt mean tossing fresh garbage on top of the soil. But organic garbage tossed into a specially designed compost pile will soon provide valuable natural additives for your garden. The easiest way to start your own compost pile is to just pile leaves, grass clippings and chopped weeds in a corner of your garden. This isnt the ideal way, but it will work. A more sophisticated compost pile involves building or buying a small enclosure in which the waste is layered and turned occasionally. The container can be made - from scraps of chicken wire and old lumber, bricks or blocks or you can buy fancier ones made of recycled plastic. It should be about 3 feet square and 3 feet high, and should allow air to circulate and allow for you to turn the stack occasionally. Some garden supply stores even carry activators to help speed up decomposition of specific items such as grass clippings or leaves. ' When the compost has ripened into a dark, rich mass, it can be mixed with your soil. The black gold will enrich your soil, and provide nutrients that may be lacking in your present garden soil. Even if you dont have a garden, comporting is still worthwhile. It can be used on flower beds, rose gardens, anywhere rich soil is desired. And if you have a gardening friend, a gift of ready to use compost would be most welcome. Contact your County Extension Agent for information or brochures which may be available to help you with your comporting project. Y2D Com) Go Use Tips snow-covere- SALINA MOTORS! None of those killed were wearing seatbelts. It wasnt their choice to die, but it was their choice not to buckle up, said Lt. Ken Ostler, of the Utah Highway Patrol.
