Carl and LaWanna Roberts of Trcmonton, long time friends of Cameron and Lucille Thorpe visited with them on Friday. Sheila Alvord was here for the Miss Gunnison Valley Pageant Saturday evening where her granddaughter Josie Hendrickson was named Miss Photogenic and second attendant Kelly and Ronald Newman and little son Taylor of Salt Lake were visitors on the weekend with Joan and Brent Newman and boys. Marius Despain is in the University of Utah Hospital for testing. Our best wishes are extended for his return to good health. Saturday Nannctte and Kerry Despain had a club lamb sale where and FFA Club members were able to purchase lambs or ewes for club members their project. Happy Birthday wishes this week are extended to Stephanie Boore, daughter of Danny and Nancy Lee Boore and Crystal Sorenson, daughter of Reed and Donna Sorenson on May 8 and Debra Humphrey today, May 9. Dennis Patterson of Pay son visited on the weekend with his parents Kathy and Dennis Patterson and sister Trudy and Kevin Despain and children Alesha, Jacob and Kevin Kade. Elwood and Julie Sorenson were in Boulder City, Nevada last week with their son Paul and Tyron Swenson and family while granddaughter Lindy Leigh underwent surgery. This little miss who is almost 2 is reported to be doing well. She has a sister Summer and brother Jamison. Saturday May 5 a new baby daughter was bom to Jolyn and Steve Camp of Salina making 37 grandchildren for Elwood and Julie. Tatum and Colton are the excited sister and brother of the new little sister who will be named McKell. 4-- H IDMMSdDN Helen Rasmussen Elaine Christensen entertained 12 the Literary at her home Refreshments Wednesday night were served to the members and Pauline Wiliams a guest, Elaine presented the program. She gave a book review Follow the River which was a true historical story. Bruce and Lynctte Teuscher are proud parents of a baby boy from Monday, May 22. He weighed 9 lbs and 4 ozs and will be named Jordan Lynn. He has an older brother named Kevin. He is the grandson of Grover and Beverly Childs of Gunnison and Lewis and Glenda Teuscher of Montipelier, Idaho. Camille Nielson visited in Fillmore SAturday and Sunday at the home of Kirk and Carol Harding. On Sunday they celebrated the 15th birthday of Cassie Harding, who is Camilles granddaughter. Curtis and Marsha Anderson and Kaye Despain spent several days in Las Vegas, Nevada. They attended the Ace Hardw'are Convention and Show. There were training sessions about merchandising and selling and also displays of new merchandise and also Christmas toys and decorations. Dorta S orensen was in Salt Lake City for several days. She was there for an eye appointment. She visited with her family Larry and Jackie Whitlock and children. Dortas granddaughter Shannon is leaving to spend time in Taiwan where she will be working and also teaching English. The Womens Conference was held on Saturday, April 28 at the Stake Center. For all the women who attended it was a very special day. The beautiful flowers, the special music, the main speaker Brad Wilcox and the workshop leaders Diane Titze, Marcea Nielson, Thcron Sondrup and Lee and Marjorie Reay were so special. Heidi was baptized by her father on Saturday. Heidi is the daughter of Gerald and Cynthia Peterson. The infant daughter of Michael and AnnaJLee Creer was given a name and a fathers blessing Sunday in the Gunnison Second Ward. She was given the name of Kendra Leigh. Family members from Springville, Spanish Fork, Logan and St. George attended this special occasion. In the Gunnison First Ward two babies were named and blessed and there was one confirmation. Misti Jo Myrup was confirmed by her father Gary Myrup. She was baptized by her father on S aturday . Misti Jo is the daughter of Gary and Sherry Myrup. The infant son of Lyle and Julie Young was given a name and a fathers blessing. He was given the name of John WEsley. Many family members and friends were there for this special day. The infant daughter of Kelly and Teri Lindsay was named and blessed by her father. She was named Calli Sue. Family members and friends attended Church for this occasion. He weighed 9 pounds 5 ounces and was 21 inches long. Grandparents are Max and Aloma Gregcrson of Fair Oaks, CA, and Warren and Jean Jensen, Salina. Great grandparents are Harris Mickelson of Idaho. The little boy was welcomed home by brother and sisters, DiVeena, Nathaniel, Marcella, Jessica and Christopher. Mrs. RuLeen Sheppard of Salina, and Mrs. Kerri Lynn Shaw, Sandy, Kami Hendrickson, Logan were in St. George for the weekend to attend a Mother and Daughter Party and workshop at Dixie College with Kriston Shaw. Kristonis the daughter of Kerry Lynn and granddaughter of RueLeen, and sister to Kami. Marlene and Lloyd Atwood and family, Orem, visited at the home of Mrs. Gladys Atwood for the weekend. V 4 f REDMOND NEWS V' Tammy Johnson ' ' v-av- Hf McKinzie Miller Hank Miller was recently honored as a member of the National Junior Honor Society in the following fields: Scholarship; Citizenship; Leadership; Character; and Service. He is a 7th grader at Cedar Middle School, and maintains a 3.85 average. McKinzie Miller was invited to attend the 50th Anniversary Youth Concert of the Utah Symphony on May 12 in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on Temple Square. Hank Miller Joseph Silvcrstein will conduct, and former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Conductor Edward Heath, will speak. Following the concert, slices of a giant Symohony birthday cake will be served. McKinzie was one of nine selected to attend. The two students are children of Hcnric and Lisa Miller; grandchildren of Robert and Vivian Williams and Betty Miller and Henrie L. Carla and Kendyl were out of town this weekend to witness the naming of their granddaughter, the daughter of Scott and Cynthia Wilkins in Cedar City. Family Celebration A family celebration was held Saturday, April 28 at the home of Alva and Virgie Sorenson in South Jordan. In attendance were their children Rulland and Louise Sorenson and four sons. Gal and Kevin Murray and four children from Logan, Clair and Roeann and five boys from West Jordan, Kim and Lou Ann Sorenson and six childrc n from Fayette and Virgics sister, Ruth and Daniel Good of May-fielThe special occasion was in remembrance of Virgie receiving a Kidney Transplant 20 years ago, April 28, 1970, performed in the University Hospital Medical Center. She was in the hospital two months on dialysis therapy, prior to transplant surgery. Virgics brother, DcLoy Whitlock donated one of his kidneys and was unable normal healthy life. DcLoy could not make the trip form his home in Montana to join the family so a thank you card was sent to him with each family member signing it. Virgie related to her family the experience of living on the dialysis machine prior to surgery and how the kidney started working immediately after the transplant The evening was also spent looking over family album pictures and reminiscing of family experiences that happened while their mother was in the hospital and after she returned home. Virgie expressed her happiness for the second chance at the gift of life and they now have a posterity of 27. Written by Ruth Good. King was chosen as first runner up and Josie Hendrickson was selected as second runnerup. Josie was also chosen as most photogenic. It was a great production. Margaret Nielsen went to Pleasant Grove to join with her son Doug and his family for the baptism of Doug and Anitas son Christian as well as Anitas graduation with a specialized field of psychology. She also visited with her daughter LaRae and family of Bancroft, Idaho for 2 weeks. The Explorers and Varsity Scouts from the Gunnison First Ward back packed in the Escalante and Death Hollow Rivers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Their leaders were Bishop Allen Dyrcng, Kent Worthington, and Curtis Anderson. The boys participating were Derek, Greg and Wade Anderson, Aaron and Brent Worhtington, Sheldon Brockerick, Courtney Bartholomew, Scott Pattcrwson, Richard Harris and Matt Roberts. They had a wonderful time and the scenery was beautiful. Help J 9 needed for summer games The Utah Summer Games are coming up June 9. Timers and scorckeepcrs are needed for the many events that take place. Lisa was confirmed Saturday evening and Jason was confirmed Sunday by McKay Roberts. Ruby Jones has had her eyes operated on this week. We hope she recovers soon. The infant son of Gary and Lisa Learning was given the name of Logan John Learning by his father Sunday. High team series, A & R Auto, 1672, with hdep. Care a lot, 2420. 3) Obituaries Lyle Walter Elliott, 71 Lyle Walter Elliott, age 71 passed away at home suffering from complications due to lung cancer. He was bom in Center, Colorado, April 5, 1918. He served in the Marines from 1938 to 1948. He married, GIcndia Kentner from Bend, Oregon on January 20, 1950. They lived in Center, Colorado where he farmed. Later they moved to Farmington, New Mexico, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. In 1965 the family moved to Gunnison, Utah where he worked for Roland Beck Farms and later worked for the Gunnison Dairy Coop for 20 years. He retired in January 1990. He was a member of the Gunnison 2nd Ward LDS Church for 25 years. He made his last move to Ephraim, Utah in August of 1989. Lyle had 9 children, of which 8 are living. A daughter. Iris Joann Cockrell, died from a brain tumor in Bakersfield, California in March 1990. Lyle is survived by Glendia Elliott; Wife, Ephraim, Utah; Arlene Collier, daughter, Hillmar, California; Blenda Lou Heap, daughter. West Valley City, Utah; Arthur Lyle Elliott, son, Fayette, Utah; Lilly Elva Herring, daughter, Richfield, Utah; Beryl Evert Elliott, son, Ephraim, Utah; Donald Earl Elliott, son Oregon City, Oregon; Viola Wanda Elliott, daughter. West Valley City, Utah; Larry Eldon Elliott, Son, Ephraim, Utah. There are 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Lyle had a sister proceed him in death. He has 2 brothers and 3 sisters still living. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 8, 1990 in the Epharim 3rd Ward Chapel with burial in the Epharim City Cemetery.
