Show 16 shown on the back drop during the song America. Then the flag was brought in for a patriotic Brigham City, Utah Thursday, November 13, 1975 BOX ELDER JOURNAL, moment. The ever present newspaper man and the TV cameraman were very much in evidence during the whole presentation. For the finale the cast surrounded the audience in a Salute to America." Willard Wrapup 'Trauma in moving?' You better believe it! by Arlene Holden "A move doesnt have to be traumatic." That quote comes from a well known child psychologist. He is obviously not married and has business only with the wealthy. Having just barely recovered from a terrible move just two blocks down the road, let me share with you his rules and how well husband applied them. 1 - Let the child know about the move well in advance and discuss the reasons with him. About three months ago husband informed me and the kids hed bought a house. Before Id even been in the house at all, wed put earnest money down and husband was discussing plans for expansion. 2 Take the child to the new house and show him where his things will be. Husband drove the two blocks with me gagged and tied in the trunk, and we walked through the house. Frankly I couldnt believe that he honestly thought I could get all our things into that small of a house. The difference between 1200 and 900 square feet is complete confusion. Make Friends Take the time and let him make friends at the new neighborhood. I knew everyone in the circle and was pleased to say to them that wed be moving in soon. Oh, ye," was their reply. The kids told us, about three Childhood weeks ago. grapevine is much more efficient than the telephone. 4 - On the day of the move, introduce him to the movers and explain that theyll be very careful with his things. Then take him to the new home to wait for his toys. We didn't exactly say Kids, this is Mommy and this is Daddy, but I think they got the idea when we started hauling things out to the truck. And as for letting them wait for the toys, we handed them each a box and told them to fill it because that was it and any that got left behind was too bad. 5 - During the move, eat regular meals. Children during this stressful time tend to have 3 - more tummy upsets. If it hadnt been for some good friends and neighbors we might have eaten soup and tuna fish sandwiches for four days running. (I packed an emergency box in case we couldn't find things. We couldnt but unfortunately I packed too much of the above and we were all tired of it rather quickly.) Paths We Had Get straightened as quickly as possible. It's much easier on the child if mother can help him find the things he wants. The kid be darned! For the first three days we had paths leading from the front door to the bathroom, and kitchen bedrooms, basement door. The first two meals we ate off paper napkins with our fingers. We all thought we lost our minds somewhere in the mess and when we eventually found them would?be time enough to worry about it. Ive never thought of myself as a junk collector but after 20 loads dropped off at the house, three loads to the Deseret Industries and six loads to the dump, Ive had to reevaluate myself. Im not straight by any means. But Ive gotten rid of all the boxes (theyre in the basement) so we can go from room to room without following a little pathway. And there is hope: I found my toothbrush this morning. Can my make-up- , and the spices for cooking and the babys diaper lotion be far behind? Our best congratulations to Jarvis Facer, Melvin Judson and Sue Miller who are the new City council members. All three wish to express their thanks and appreciation to all who voted for them and all others who supported their campaigns. 6 Road Shows Last Tuesday and Wed- nesday, the three wards' Activity Night young people from Willard, along with the other wards in the Brigham City South stake, put on the annual , road shows. Whos Sam was presented by the First ward. Uncle Sam took the audience on a personally conducted tour of history by stepping through a time machine with two young people who needed to be confor of the need vinced patriotism. in Hall Independence Philadelphia was first with a stop at a plantation in the Old South just before the Civil War. A touching moment was provided when a bugler blew taps for the dead of that war. World War I was depicted by a scene of the dough boys gathered around a campfire. The song "Oh How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning was sung. Americas ability to bounce back was saluted with the song, Hey Look Me Over. The Roaring Twenties were the next stop where Uncle Sam joined a flapper for a try at the Charleston followed by a soup line, a common scene during the Great Depression of the Thirties. Next Stop World War II was the next stop where a young soldier sang to his girl in a donut shop. It was followed by the song, This is the Army, Mr. Jones. The finale of the show was the entire cast singing, Im a Yankee Doodle Dandy. We send a star to Jimmy Ricks who gamely did his part during the show while supporting a cast on his leg. Centennial Surprise was presented by the Third ward. A movement was started to replace the Eagle with Mickey Mouse as the national symbol. Mickey and some of the other Walt Disney characters entered from the back of the hall. Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, all of the Seven Dwarfs, Daffy Duck and Heckle and Jeckle. After some discussion Mickey and Daffy decide that perhaps the best way is for everyone to work together for the good of the country. The Eagle led out in singing Stout-Hearte- Love and War The Second ward presentation was entitled Love and War. These two things are among the few that havent changed in the 200 years of our country. The first scene involved three young calvary men voluntering for duty with Custer. Their - the A gangsters. malt shop was the next scene with the gang wars of the fifties being depicted. The cast danced the old time dances. Bishop Holmes and his wife Karen were featured dancers during this scene. A blackout fight between the two gangs with crutches very much in evidence was also part of the malt shop scene. The moral of the scene was to be a lover not a fighter.
