Biggs growing problem for our g community and the communities in our county is the absence of an animal control officer for the county. Brigham City has its own dog pound and pound master. The hours there are 4 to 5 each afternoon, except weekends. When a problem arises for the disposal of animals in our county, we of the humane1 society have found that there is no help legally available to take care of animal problems except at the sheriffs office. There is no county animal shelter for unwanted animals. Each city is responsible for its own animal control but there is a definite need for a county officer. The Golden Spike Humane society feels that the collection of animal license fees by the city should be handled so that those monies can be used for animal control exclusively. If this fund should not be sufficient for the city dog pound then there should be additional funds made available to adequately staff and take care of the control problem. The obedience school for dogs that the humane society has A out-lyin- sponsored this summer has been successful with a large enrollment and the demand for further schools. There will be two more weeks of lessons and a graduation for the dogs and this will be followed on Aug. 7 with an obedience training drill team invited up from Salt Lake City to perform for anyone interested in this activity. That was my lot last week. To top things off, I ran down to get a new outfit, curlers in hair, outfit and all, and on the spot met 10 other couples whom I would much rather have met when I looked a lot nicer. To top everything off, nothing in the store seemed to do any thing to help, so I went in old faithful outfit. And again another lesson was learned by the fact that it was so much fun to see all those friends that little did it matter that one was looking their very worst in the last 10 years. Well what is the news in our town this week? work-a-da- y Have Party Last Wednesday night a party was held by the Cliff Allred family and the Frank Housers gave a lawn party in honor of both Dennis Allred and Bill Houser leaving to join the Air Force. And also in celebration of Dennis birthday on the 24th. A large group of young people enjoyed lawn games and refreshments. Dennis left Friday and Bill left Tuesday morning for Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Good luck guys and I hope your future turns out well. A week before this the Allred family went to Mapleton to visit Cliffs mother and took her on down to the Manti Pageant. They visited Cliffs sister in Springville the next day and then returned home. (I guess that is because the Mantua-ite- s know how to do those things, do you suppose?) I cannot believe that this summer has been so beautiful. We have slept with covers every night thus far, and a cool breeze comes up just as it is time for bed. The hills are still a beautiful green and not brown as they usually are by this time. Last weekend our family took a hike over the moutain, through Beecher pass and on down in Brigham City, baby and all, and it was one of the funnest trips we have had. The children sang pioneer songs and we played like we were a pioneer family. (The best thing was that we saw no snakes, as I was afraid that we might encounter one) And even though toward the end the girls and I had to rest under a few sagebrushes and Van and Bruce went ahead and returned with the car on the last lap, we still took great pride that we had climbed that far. The kids decided that they could be good pioneers if they had to be. (And mother came home happy that we did not have to be, so far, any way). Doing Fine are happy to see the Hailing twins, Marlene and Darlene, are doing fine after We having their tonsils out last week, I understand they had a little difficulty so we are glad they are all right now. Ug, we have been out of water every once in a while for the putting in of the new water system. If you think it is different to go without electricity as we did a few times lately in the winter, you ought to go without water in the summer. Mantua Shows people how neat it is to and hoe have running hot and cold water at the at ones finger tips. Have you all decided what you will do on the 24th?
