Twelve Japanese high school 8 students aged and their 16-1- honor Open house newlywed couple Friday will arrive in Brigham City on Sunday, July 27, by bus to make their homes with local families for a three-weevisit. Sponsored under the Experiment in International Living, the group comes from the area of Niigata-ken- , Japan, and have all studied English in written form. They will be in America both to improve their English skills and to get to know the American way of life. Mrs. Alida Hannum, local representative for the Experiment in International Living, adds that the group has come to this area instead of a bigger city due to the influence of a visitor on a similar program several years ago. The young people left Japan on Tuesday, July 22, and will spend a few days touring on the coast before arriving at the Salt Lake International Airport at noon on Sunday. Families will greet the students as they arrive locally on the bus, and the students and host families will enjoy a potluck garden party at the Hannum home on Sunday evening. Bakers have had a busy two months with family and friends coming to visit them from their old hometown of Sacramento, Calif. Her folks Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Clark spent seven weeks with them in May and June. While they were here they helped her Dad celebrate his 75th birthday anniversary and her Mother celebrate her 76th Japanese teacher-adviso- opean tour in the Netherlands and from there visited Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France and England. Some of the highlights of their trip was a train trip to Jungfrau, the highest railway station in the world, climbing the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and going to the top of the Eiffel Tower. In England they enjoyed seeing the beautiful Salisbury another interesting experience. They visited the Italian Riviera and traveled to the famous ruins of the old brige of Avignon in the South of France. They enjoyed a train ride along the Rhine to see the many old castles. They visited the cheese factory in Logan, went bowling and sightseeing. Here for dinner and an evening' as their guests were Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn McNiesh of Sacramento. Two young friends of the Bakers, David and Brenda Sommers who had grown up with their children dropped by for a days visit and her cousin Dorothy McDowell of Sacramento spent a day with them. Latest visitors of the Bakers were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Fernandez and children Denise, Steven, and Nicole who spent two weeks here as their houseguests. They visited the cheese factory in Logan, Trolley Square in Salt Lake City and visited the Golden Spike site. Young Steven helped the blacksmith at the site make a spike which he was given as a souvenir. A highlight of the Fernandez trip was having their old baptised in St. and their daughter Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Morrison and son Joe of with son-in-la- brother-in-la- Kaysville. They travled to the Coos Bay area where Joe had fulfilled a mission for the LDS church. They took the Grants trailer house and went to Winnemucci and then took the Highway to the Sea route to Coos Bay. They camped out in the beautiful campgrounds in the and area on the ocean-fron- t enjoyed surf fishing for ocean perch which they described as delicious, and also dug for clams. They enjoyed meeting friends of Joe whom he had met during his mission. Leaving Coos Bay they traveled down the ocean highway through the Redwood Forest to Klamath, Calif. There they enjoyed the Trees of Mystery Forest with its unique w Salem, Ohio. They spent a week here and the Knavels kept them busy camping and fishing. The Wallgrens have spent the past two years in San Antonio, Tex. and were on their way to a Great-grandfath- son-in-la- assignment two-ye- the in Phillipine Islands. Lt. Wallgren spent a month here and then left his family while he went on to find housing for them in the Philipines before he sent for them. Mrs. Wallgren, who will be remembered here as the former Julie Jensen, spent seven weeks with her folks. She also visited in Salt Lake City with her brother-in- law and sister Mr. and Mrs. Lance and a cousin and u) family, Mr. and Mrs. Brent Holmes. While the Wallgrens were here they also spent some time with his folks Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wallgren of Bountiful. A number of family parties and kept them busy during their stay. Their most recent jaunt took them on a four-daflight to Winnepeg, Canada, just to see the country, according to Burke. We have had fun making cookies, sandwiches, milk drinks and vegetable relishes. For a community project we took cookies to Mrs. Lawson who had surgery and the Rostron family whose baby is ill in the hospital. We had a closing party for our mothers where we had samples of the things we learned. Each club member gave a short demonstration. We want to go to camp and we all plan on taking cookies to the fair in August.
