These will be essential in aiding students entering the UN essay contest conducted during October and November. The topic for the contest is Describe similarities between differences and the guarantees of human rights as stated in the UN Charter and the U.S. Constitution. The purpose of the contest is to build understanding of the realities and limitations embodied in the UN from the historical perspective of the United States struggle for rights, responsibilities and freedom. Local youths to collect for UNICEF Trick or Treat is the call this time of year, and for 300 local children and youth canvassing Brigham City on Saturday, Oct. 26, their goal will not be candy or apples but coins for UNICEF, the United Nations Childrens fund. The young people have set aside Saturday for their UNICEF with activities, elementary age children to visit homes in their assigned area beginning at 3 p.m. from the Christian Reformed church, 625 South Third East, and returning there for refreshments. Junior high youth will begin from Gillespie hall at 7 p.m., as will senior high youth departing from St. Henrys Catholic church. Both groups will return to their own centers to count funds and to enjoy a party following the drive. Local residents will be able to recognize the young people by the familiar orange and black collection boxes bearing the UNICEF seal and an added feature set up by the local committee, a UNICEF dollar that acts as a receipt for tax purposes for donors of one dollar or more. Represent Groups Drive participants represent several youth organizations, church youth groups, and church school classes. Spon- soring ths drive are local churches, Church Women United and the League of Women Voters. Dinner brings attention to UN Mrs. J.P. Gurrister, drive coordinator, points out that all funds collected are sent to UNICEF and the young people and sponsoring organizations donate and plan the refreshments for the youth who participate. In similar drives throughout Utah, the United States, and on U.S. overseas military bases, UNICEF funds are collected with very little administrative cost since the canvass is conducted and coordinated totally by volunteers.
