Show 18 BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham Cify, Utah Plymouth Ponderings Thursday, September 12, 1974 Former Portage woman's death mourned by sisters Knudsen of the death of their sister, Mary (Mame) Halford Roberts August 21 in Aubrun, Calif. Mrs. Roberts was born March 1896 27, at Portage, the daughter of J. W. and Rhoda Young Halford. She had lived in Auburn for 45 years. She is survived by her husband, Victor Roberts, four brothers and four sisters, Ralph Halford of St. George, O.C. (Ob) Halford, Lester Halford and Carl Halford of California, Mrs. Carmen Warner, Provo, Mrs. Norma Anderson, California, Mr. Ethel Hall and Mrs. Eliza Knudsen, Portage. Interment was in the New Auburn District Cemetery, Calif. August 26. Leave for Washington Mr. and Mrs. David P. Gibbs left Salt Lake City by plane Monday for Green Acres, Wash, where they will visit their and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Denny and family. is Miss Marlene John Home Making, teaching Physical Education and Typing and is Drill Master at North Rich high school (Bear Lake area). Miss John is a graduate of BRHS, a four year Seminary graduate and is a graduate of son-in-la- USU. Among those who attended the ceremony uniting Miss Debbie Stevenson and Dr. J. Scott Raymond at the Logan LDS Temple Wednesday and the wedding breakfast at Sherwood Hills Wednesday were Mrs. Thelma D. Gibbs and Mr. and Mrs. Wendell C. Hall. They also attended the reception honoring the couple at the Juniper Lounge, University Center, Logan. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. John F. Conley, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas J. Gibbs, Arthur L. Gibbs and Mr. and Mrs. Josh Hawks. with them for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Nielsen were in Brigham City Monday business. Arthur L. Gibbs visited for several days during the week in Wendell, Idaho with his brother , Mr. and Mrs. and on sister-in-law- ElVoid Gibbs. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Cannon of San Diego, Calif, and Mr. and Mrs. Duggan Allen visited Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Hall. Reunion Held The David W. Morris family reunion was held Saturday at the Portage Ward meeting house. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Thomas and sons, Bobbie and Brandon moved to Brigham City Saturday where they will make their home. Mr. Thomas is teaching at Box Elder high school. He is a BRHS graduate, a four year Seminary graduate and a graduate of USU. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hoskins and son Brent of Clearfield and Mr. and Mrs. Randy Stanger and daughter, Trae Ann of Idaho spent the Burley, weekend here. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Hoskins left Saturday for Edmonds, Wash, to visit with their and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Conger and family. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Harris Saturday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gleed of Malad, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Williams and daughter and Mrs. ONeil Schwartz of Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. E. Mr. and Mrs. Devere Harris attended a Regional Convention at Pocatello, Idaho Saturday where Mr. Harris was the Regional Representative for the members and Mrs. of LDS Church. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morris are in Ogden this week caring for their grandchildren while their mother, Sandra Callister is being treated at the McKay-De- e Hospital. Mrs. Wm. L. Gibbs has been in Ogden several times during the past week with her brother, A. J. (Junior) Hall of Brigham City who is seriously ill fpllowing surgery, due to an accident. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs Allen returned to their home Sunday night from a delightful 11 day vacation trip. Allan Nielsen left Monday for Vancover, British Columbia, Canada where he will work on his Masters degree at the University of British Columbia. Allan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reed Nielsen. Estes, Park. Mr. and Mrs. Don Forsgren of Thatcher, Idaho were overnight guests of Mrs. Forsgrens parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Howell. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Wiser of Twin Falls, Idaho and Mr. and Mrs. Parris Neal and son of Logan were weekend guests of their parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester P. Neal. Mrs. Moyle Knudsen returned to her home Friday from LaHabra Heights, Calif, where she has spent the past month and with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. and family. The Weaver Weavers have a new baby boy. Beth Webber of Salt Lake City was the guest of Velda Harris Thursday and Friday. Friday Mrs. Webber and Mrs. Harris were luncheon guests of Mary Price at the Prices summer home in Liberty. son-in-la- Wedding Guests Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Thomas were among those who attended the ceremony uniting Miss Kristene Smith and Andy Nelson of Salt Lake City in marriage at the home of the brides parents, Dr. and Mrs. Wayne Smith of Pocatello, DeMolay Recently members from the Leland Stanford chapter of DeMolay chose a chapter sweetheart. The party was held in Ogden at Golf City, where the participants played minature golf, and then went back to the chapter in Brigham to hold the election. The members held the election and Miss Lisa daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hunsaker won and will compete in the state competition held in Salt Lake Hun-sake- City. On Sept. 28 DeMolay r, will sponsor another carwash. Cost will be $1.50, for the interior and exterior. Those who have friends from the previous carwash will be accepted at this carwash. It will be held behind the Fellowship Hall, 319 South First East, Brigham City, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Annual Gibby in Mendon. Couple enjoys Layton cookout Portage Pennings by Maude R. Thursday Mrs. Newel Nish and Mrs. Joseph Stokes visited Mrs. Udell Godfrey and family in Clarkston. At Davis Creek Fishing and water skiing at Devils Creek Monday were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Udy and family, Jerry Estep, Mr. and Mrs. Norris Hess and family, Mrs. Diane Yates and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Archibald. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Craig Barnes and family of Brigham City, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jenkins of Thatcher and Ruth Rigby of Richmond. Spending the past week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Norris Hess and family was Charles Hess of Yuba City, Calif. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Norris Hess accompanied Mrs. Donna Holmes to the airport in Salt Lake City where she left for her home in Albuquerque, N. M., after visiting relatives in this Vernon Lamb visited Mr. and Mrs. Herman Thompson in Clarkston Sunday. and Oleen Mr. Mrs. Josephson met at the home of Marie and Willis Stewart in Salt Lake City Friday where they were joined by thirty members of the World Book of Mormon Tour which was sponsored by the BYU. Slides and movies were shown. A smorgasbord was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Hess of Long Beach, Calif., have been spending a few days with Orlins father Ervin Hess. Spending Saturday visiting Mrs. Lester Eddington in Salt Lake City were Mrs. LaPriel Secrist and Mrs. Nina Owen. They were accompanied by Mrs. Kathy Montgomery and two daughters of Brigham City. Recuperating Mrs. Edith Atkinson of Samaria is recuperating at the home of her daughter Mrs. Vernon Lamb after undergoing eye surgery. Visiting her during the past week were Mrs. William Atkinson, Gaye Kimberling, Hannah Waldron of Samaria, Ivaloo Jensen of Downey. Mr. and Mrs. DeVere Hess attended a 70 C Little League football game held at Bear River Junior High school where Jimmy was one of the participants. They played Smith-fielLittle League and came out the winners. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Lamb were Mr. and Mrs. Lamont Wakely of Bancroft. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Udy and Mr. and Mrs. James Burgess attended a 78 Little League football game in North Ogden where Reese Udy, and Todd Burgess were among the participants. Later they attended a Jamboree for Cub Scouts, Den Mothers and parents which was held at Early Park. Mrs. and Bishop Theo Coombs attended the wedding ceremony for Mrs. Coombs neice Debbie Stevenson of Logan who became the bride of Scott Raymond in rites performed in the Logan LDS Temple Wednesday. A breakfast for the bridal party was held at Sherwood Hills in Sardine Canyon. That evening a reception was held in the Juniper Lounge at USU. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald John and family of Salt Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. Kent John and family of Luke AFB in Pheonix, Ariz. Kent has received his honorable discharge from the Air Force and he and his family will now make their home in Tremonton. This group came especially for a testimonial held in the 3rd ward Sunday evening for Elder Randy John who will enter the mission home in Salt Lake City Saturday prior to leaving for an Australia South LDS Mission. Following the meeting an open house was held at the Alford John home for friends and relatives. Dr. Jack S. Johnson is of the Utah president-elec- t Academy of Family Practice and has recently been awarded several research grants from major drug companies for work on new arthritis drugs. He and his wife recently attended a Pan American Congress in Arthritis and its Allied Diseases in Toronto, Canada, which is Mrs. Johnsons home town. They were in Toronto for three weeks afterwhich they spent sometime in Joliet, 111., visiting Mrs. Johnsons parents, Dr. and Mrs. A. W. Hoppins. The staff members at Dr. Jack S. Johnsons office enjoyed a weekend party as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Chournos at their ranch at Monte Cristo. Included were the staff members partners and their families.
