Mr. and Mrs. Grant Calhster were in Salt Lake City on business Monday and Tuesday. the Mrs. Callister attended Volunteer Fair held at the University of Utah for the Utah Arthritis Foundation. Saturday she attended a Fashion Fair at the Moll in Salt Lake City where the Utah Arthritis Foundation participated in a charity bazaar. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hess accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Garrett of Logan and Mrs. Helen Sharp of Bountiful visited in Burley last week. Visiting at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Poulson last week was Dr. Poulsons father Merritt Poulson of Salt Lake City. Visitors at the Poulson home during the weekend were Lynda Poulson and David Poulson students at USU in Logan and Lani Poulson who is enrolled at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Attending a Leadership Training conference for community leaders and leaders of the senior citizen organization held at the USU in Logan sponsored by the Rocky Mountain association Gerontology were Monday Russell Capener, George Smith, Ed Kerr, Carl Borup, LaRene Napoli, Bonnie Sue Grover. Among the speakers were Dr. William D. Hart, Ronald Hampton, Joe Neilsen, Herbert Harrison and Ed Kerr. Calvin Welling of Evanston and visited his brother-in-lasister Mr. and Mrs. Bob Brough and family during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Fuhriman were at the Salt Lake airport Friday to meet Mrs. Con Hansen who was returning from Montebello, Calif, where she and visited her daughter Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mendoza and family. She was accompanied by Mrs. LaMont Moore of Idaho Falls. Mr. Moore joined them at the Hansen home where he was an son-in-la- overnight guest before ac- companying his wife back to Idaho Falls. Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Con Hansen spent the evening visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ellery Hall in Garland. Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gibbs of Portage. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Craig Woolley in Ogden is Mrs. Virgil Willard Reports Family visits relatives in LV by Madge Watts who are moving to Idaho Falls. Guests included: Ev and Dee Wayne and Merlene Braegger and daughter Kathleen flew to Las Vegas last week for a three-da- y visit with Merlenes sister and brother-in-laJ. D. and Joyce Reese and with her brother and sister-in-laMerlin and Judy Thompson. They enjoyed a relaxing visit and visited Boulder Dam and other tourist attractions while there. John and Georgia Callahan announce the arrival of a new baby girl born Saturday Oct. 20. She weighed in at nine pounds 10 ounces and her name will be Amy Leigh. She has two brothers Casey, 7, and Mathew, McKinstry, Phil and Merline 3. Sharing grandparent honors are Rachel Rivera, from Ogden, Maye Loewen from Bountiful and Jack Callahan from Roy. Great grandparents are Joseph and Elva Hendersen from Bountiful. Eldon and Madge Watts received word this week of the arrival of a new grandson, Jonathon Perry Watts, born Thursday, Oct. 25 in Cottonwood. His proud parents are Richard and Linda Watts of Sandy and he has a three year old sister Wendianh and a two year old brother Darren. Sharing grandparent honors with Eldon and Madge are Mr. and Mrs. Howard Perry of Kaysville. Anticipating Halloween the Willard ward MIA held a social last Thursday night featuring the Alfred Hitchcock movie followed by Spellbound, traditional refreshments. The social was arranged and under the direction of the youth council. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Watts visited on Saturday at the home of their daughter Adele Watts in Salt Lake City. Billy and Sharon Prescott gave a going away party this week for Tom and Darline Charlton from Brigham City Petty, Robert and Beverly Breidenbach, Gaylen and Helen Wain and Georgianna Davis and Bill and Pauline Dolling, all from Brigham City. Assisting the hostess with preparations and serving was Dixie Keyes daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Keyes. The Youth council in the Willard Second ward are sponsoring a fund raising dinner Saturday Nov. 3. The event titled, A Dime a Dip, will be held in the cultural hall at the Willard chapel. Everyone is invited to bring their families for a fun time and to bring eating utensils. Undergoes Training Nancy Hunsaker, wife of Virgil Hunsaker of Willard, is training at the Cooley Memorial hospital in Brigham City to be a operating room technician. On Sunday the McClurgs visited in Salt Lake City and attended the missionary testimonial for Edith nephew Kevin Clawson who was been called to the Pennsylvania. the meeting they Following attended an open house in his honor at the home of his parents Kingsley and Shirly Clawson. They then stayed overnight in Salt Lake City with Ediths son Gayle who hosted a dinner at the Town and Country club. Dewey, At last the anxiety is over and everyone knows who the next Mantua ward bishopric is. Hal Chester Rasmussen was unanimously supported by audience, Sunday as the new bishop with counselors Darwin theHalling and Steve Sara were also sustained. Released were Bishop Robert Wallentine and counselors Clair Hailing and Stewart Reeves. Emotional Meeting The meeting was quite an emotional time for all concerned with Bishop Wallentine encouraging people to be prepared for situations such as these by living the gospel. Each newly released and sustained member gave a brief but excellent speech concerning their personal feelings at this time. Financial Clerk Herm Jepp-se- n was released and filling this position will be Merlin Larsen. Executive Secretary Orion Nelson was also released and filling this position will be Gardener Jeppsen. Howard Hansen will remain in the same position which is that of Ward Clerk. All in all it was quite an eventful day. Attends Retreat Paula Sheehan who is attending Utah State this year, went with some students to a Baptist retreat at camp Utaba which is near Liberty. They spent the weekend there and truly thought it was a wonderful time. Paulas father Paul Sheehan and her sister Coleen are also attending Utah State so it looks like it is going to be a family affair. News from the Richard Noyes house is that they have the flu. I hope better news is in sight soon. At the Merlin Larsen home they had company for Sunday, Jack and Nelda Hight and their three children, Michele, Sherry and Berry. They are from Kearns. Trinas other sister and family from Kearns visited here Saturday. There names are Wallis and Colleen Clark. David Christensen, Trinas brother from Ogden visited Sunday, so it sounds like the Got Deer Who got a deer? John Hurd did But Johns mother-in-laMrs. Palmer also got one. Does that mean anything a man can do a woman can do also, or something to that effect? Well congratulations to both of you. A big deer consisting of hunting party Ralph Wyatt, Brent Wyatt, Lynn and Lynda Wyatt, Keith and Karen Jensen, Reid Jeppsen, Glen Caspenson, Alan Christensen and Tommy Ammons returned from Richfield with around seven deer. Brent Wyatt is attending Utah technical college this year. And another fun thing heard from the Wyatts was about Ralph having the first grade children from Mountain View school over to his barbershop for a lesson on hair cutting. Ralph used Dennis Noyes as his model. Ralph goes into the history of hair while he shampoos, conditions and even examines hairs under a microscope. After all this he treats the children with a comb and candy. I think that sounds very interesting to say the least. How would you like to take a bunch of 11 year olds out on a hike starting at 8 a m. I think I would be tempted to sleep in that morning and pass up my big chance. Not Mrs. Wyatt. Shes right out their with them explaining points of interest and how to use compasses along the way. Babies named and blessed Sunday were two little girls. One was the daughter of Janet and Stewart Reeves being given the name of Kristin and the other was the daughter of Dixie and Richard Noyes, being given the name of Stefanie. At the Reeves home both sets of grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Reeves of Brigham City and Mr. and Mrs. Chester Rasmussen of Mantua, came for dinner for the special event. At the Noyes home the grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Noyes and Mary Jeppsen, plus Debbie and Scott Losee all attended dinner for their special day. On the Independents ticket: Darwin Hailing for mayor, Doyal Hansen for councilman, Delbert Jensen for councilman A new baby boy has been born to Carol and Willie Southern at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 30. He weighed in at eight and a half pounds. Congratulations to Southerns. Francom. Mrs. Woolley is from recent recuperating surgery. She is a daughter of Mrs. Francom. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Carver are looking forward to Saturday when they will be joined by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Judd of Salt Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. William Judd of Coalville, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Madsen of Midvale and Miss Carma Carver, a student at USU in Logan. They will attend the homecoming football game in Logan with USU vs. Wyoming. Later they will have a family dinner party at Sherwood Hills in Sardene canyon in compliment to both Mr. and Mrs. Bill Judd who are observing niversaries. birthday an- Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Mrs. Musselman is Mrs. Packers neice. Spending Thursday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Theo Anderson in Blackfoot were Mr. and Mrs. Clifford John. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Worley during the weekend was Mrs. Worleys mother Mrs. Cora Burnett of Brigham City and Miss Janet Worley of Ogden. Entertains Classmates Judy Woodbury, a student at USU in Logan had 15 of classmates to the home of her her parents Dr. and Mrs. Darwin Woodbury for light refreshments Friday evening following the Pep club dance which this group of students furnished music for at the high school. The dance followed the football game with Bear River vs. Weber. Visiting Mrs. Elva Korth during the past week was her daughter Mrs. Moana Young and son Eric of Rexburg. Spending the past week visiting Mrs. Joe Holland was her granddaughter Mrs. Tamra Dayton and children Jennie Lyn and Mindy Jo of Cokeville, Wyo. Yolanda Allen and Mildred Shumway attended Womens State Legislative Council at the State Capitol in Salt Lake City last week where Governor Calvin Rampton was the guest speaker. He talked on school finance. A question and answer period followed. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Anderson have returned after visiting their son and daughter-in-laMr. and Mrs. Jack Anderson in San Francisco and their son Blaine Anderson in Seattle. PTA Meets The high school PTA met in the auditorium Wednesday evening. Bonnie Gam, PTA president conducted meeting. Students representing the 23 clubs in the high school were represented. Three black-out- s featuring communications between parents and students were held. Mrs. Gam r nounces a an- Parent-Teache- conference will be held Nov. 16 in the auditorium starting at the regular school time and continuing throughout the day. A cub scout round table will be held in the Seminary building Thursday at 8 p.m. Howard Glenn has returned home after receiving rpedical care at the Holy Cross hospital in Salt Lake City. Spending the weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lee Fuhriman were Lt. and Mrs. Peter Kelly of Whitesands, N. M. Meeting ambient air quality standards is going to require a major change in processes and systems at the Utah Copper Division smelter. In seeking the right new process, were involved in researching and pilottesting technologies not now in use in this country. The one we choose must not only meet the pollution standards but also permit the continued viability of this business enterprise and its 7000-plu- s employees. Currently, Utah Copper Division is spending $12.5 million for engineering and development work in environmental control activities. Earlier this year, $225,000 was spent to research the behavior of smelter emissions under various atmospheric conditions. Compliance with the standards- is our priority challenge, requiring heavy investments of time, manpower and money. - are making progress each day.
