Little over three weeks ago, Box Elder was cruising along with a perfect 0 Region One mark and seemingly a shoe-i- n for state playoff action. Today the grid togs are tucked away, not to see wear until another season while n others procede into pigsklnnery. prep A 26-defeat at the hands of Roy Tuesday afternoon was the final nail in Box Elder's grid coffin. It was hammered in on the Bonneville high turf as the Bees and Royals, both 2 and tied for second in final region standings, settled the deadlock. The Roy club now advances to a Saturday date with Region Three champs East High. and 4-- 25 yards by Lynn Horspool. Dismal End It was a dismal end to what had begun as a hopeful season. After piling up a total record, the Bees lost three of their final four contests. Murray which came to town for a practice tilt last Thursday and was shelled, 42-by the Bees, left wondering aloud how anybody could beat the Hivers. The Spartans had not been successful in winning a game among their Region Four friends, but had been 6-- 1 post-seaso- 0 . com-petativ- e. 4-- What Happened? was a happened? question oft asked in the wake of Tuesday's confrontation. What happened was that Roy pounded Box Elder's defense sufficiently for three touchdowns and two field goals. And the Royal defense dominated the Hive guys offense. It was the second time in as many years that Box Elder has lost a playoff bid to enter the state Class AAAA quarterfinals. And for the second time the loss was suffered at the hands of a team which they had defeated in regular league play. Still, with exception of the Murray game. Box Elder went 10 straight quarters without scoring a point. And, in two outings on the Bonneville field this fall, they lost to Bonneville and Roy by a combined score of 54-It didnt figure, but thats the way it went. Box Elders .defense which was well stocked with juniors and even one sophomore, Wade Hall, performed yeoman service and were scrapping even into the final minutes. They put in a lot of tough overtime. Its not gonna be this way next year. Were going farther, a junior gridman vowed grimly from the sidelines. Were not gonna be involved in any playoff to see who goes to he state. Not next year, pledged. Have you ever seen a flying moose? If not, you might want 7:30 to watch Utah Trails at 13 on KUED.
