NO DOWN PAYor Robert Pett BY 723-700- Child Abuse will be the subject of concern for participants at a workshop to be held on Oct. 25 at Weber State college in Ogden. This program is sponsored by the Utah Association for Mental Health which includes the Box Elder chapter and the Webei Basin chapter. Others giving financial aid are the Salt Lake Mental Health center and the Utah Division of Mental Health. Group Leader Billy Jensen, director of the Brigham Child Development center and a member of the board of directors of the Box Elder chapter, will be a group leader for the conference of teachers, nursery school directors, doctors, nurses, lawyers, judges, law en- forcement officers, protective service workers, social service personnel and interested citizens. Most people would be surprised at the amount of child abuse that is present in Box Elder county," said Jensen. "It is not only among the poorer people of the community either." "This is one of the services provided with the 20 per cent of funds collected in the county by workers during the fund drive now going on, which is used by the state office. Sixty per cent of the funds stay in the county for local programs; 20 per cent is sent to the national organization for the many services which they provide which profit us locally," a spokesman for the Box Elder chapter reported. The purpose of the workshop is to develop some workable solutions to the problem of child abuse and to design a endeavor cooperative state program. Keynote Address Mrs. C.Joy Jones Chandler, from the National Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect in Denver, will give the keynote address during the morning session. Her topic; "An Approach that Works: is to implement recommendations generated.
