The sermon will be a talk on how the Bible came down to us, how it was put together and edited, and how various traditions were united. Please bring your own Bible. Senior Highs will join with the seniors from the Lutheran and Methodist churches for an afternoon of fellowship starting at Aldersgate Methodist Morning worship will be 9:15 a.m. in the Corinne Methodist church for the Aldersgate congregation. At sermon time the pastor and the church lay leader, George Kirchoff, will engage in dialogue about the church. They will discuss its nature and purpose, and seek to stimulate discussion regarding our local congregation as a part of the church. Sundays schedule at church begins with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. Morning Worship time Perry Pulse School event set for area parents by Mrs. Max Nelson Its "Back to School Night for the parents of the Perry Elementary students next Thursday evening, Oct. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. At 7 and 7:15 p.m. the parents of the kindergarten, first and second grades will meet with their childs' teachers and hear an outline of the coming year activities. At 7:30 p.m. a general PTA meeting will be held in the multi purpose room with the school staff and PTA workers to be introduced. Wednesday morning, Oct. 3, the Perry Second ward Relief society will hold their fall social for all the laides of the ward. Beginning at 10 a.m. a special program under the direction of Mrs. Margo Wagstaff and Mrs. Marilyn Lund will be presented and then all class leaders will give an introduction to the coming year activities. Relief society president, Mrs. Kathleen Wight invites all women of the ward to attend and plan on attending Relief society every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. The Perry ward Relief society held their fall social last Friday evening in the ward cultural hall. A skit entitled, The Case for Relief Society, was presented with Mrs. Zina Peterson as the judge, Mrs. Velva Greenhalgh, defendant, Mrs. Carol Reeder, bailiff and Mrs. Annette Kay, inactive member. Pleading their cases were St. Michaels Episcopal s. school. Presbyterian always welcome. An informal evening worship time is held at 6:30 p.m. Childrens Bible classes got off to a good start last week. Classes will be held regularly on Thursdays at 3:45 p.m. Please if you need trancall sportation. Youth activities have started. We hope to introduce some new things this year. Witnesses were Mrs. June Rasmussen, Mrs. Rosa Mae Smith, Mrs. Jane Hillier and Mrs. Norma Braithwaite with Mrs. Ruth Barnard and Mrs. Maxine Nelson as special witnesses. Musical Numbers Two musical numbers were furnished, one by the Relief society chorus and one by the officers and teachers. The program was under the direction of Mrs. Norma Braithwaite and Mrs. Retha John. Refreshments were served following the program. Mrs. Elzada Young was honored last Saturday af- ternoon, Sept. 22 by many family members and friends at an open house on her 80th birthday. The open house was held at the Perry ward church and a large number were in attendance to greet her on this special day. Kathv and Lowell Tinou Kathy and Lowell Tuieyajyj Calif, visited this past weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Nelson. The Tingeys were here to attend the funeral services of his father, Robert Tingey of Brigham City. Robert Tingey was also the father of Robert Tingey of Perry. Our sincerest sympathy is extended to the Tingey family at this time. Mr. and Mrs. Max Nelson, Reese, Kelly, Carolyn, and Peggy visited in Layton on Sunday afternoon. All members of the family were in attendance for a fmily dinner. Included were Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jensen, Dennis and Glenn and Mrs. Joyce Cox all of Layton. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jensen, Jinjer, Jearmie and Heather of Providence and the Nelsons of Perry. i Sunday, Sept. 30, is the six- teenth Sunday after Pentecost. At 9:30 a.m. we will celebrate the patronal feast of St. Michael and All Angels with a folk mass and Eucharist. . Cooperative church school is each Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. at Gillespie Hall. All children from three years of age through sixth grade are welcome. A midweek Eucharist will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 9:30 a.m. On Wednesday evening, Oct. 3, a potluck supper will be held in the church basement at 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the supper, a budget meeting will be held. All members of the congregation are urged to be present. There will be a meeting to plan our budget for three years and set priorities. First Baptist The choir is now meeting for on Sunday afternoons at 5:30 p.m. Anyone with a desire to join the choir is invited to attend the practice sessions. The choir will practice be presenting special arrangements regularly during the worship services. Ralph Davis is the director, and may be contacted for details. On Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. the church will have another "Share and Praise service. Those who would like to present vocal or instrumental selections, share poetry or Scripture, or in any other way the Lord through sharing are welcomed to do so. Ralph Davis will be in charge of the service. Those wanting to participate should give their names and selections to Davis. Pastor Embery may be heard praise Mantua Meandorings New baby, marriages, school event top news by Joy Jepperson The town mourns the death of 26, of Mantua, con of John and lone Baxter. Jay was a fine example of young manhood and will be remembered by the townspeople. Before his death Jay was one of the few young people who all ready was taking an action and worthwhile part in the Jay Baxter, on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. over KBUH. The program is a thirty minute program, and is Good News For and suggestions about the programs may be mailed to P.O. Box 265, Brigham City. entitled, Today. Comments of his choice to help support his town, state and nation. His help will be missed. party New Baby The Stewart Reeves family have a new little baby girl, born Sunday night at the Cooley Memorial hospital at 10:05 p.m. Already you can tell she will be a good little girl because of the timing on her arrival. Janet, her mother, plays the music for the church night meeting and Stewart, her father is in the bishopric. Thus the babe came just at the right time after meeting was over. Speaking of babies, one we missed mentioning this summer was that of a little girl born to Lola Jean and David Price. The baby, was named Sherlyn and was born in July. The Housers are off to the airport this morning to take Jamie to board and plane for Italy. Jamie has been at the language training school at BYU since his farewell and now will officially leave to begin his mission for the LDS church. Congratulations are in order to Karen Gay daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon O. Bigler of Mantua who married Keith J. Jensen son of Mr. and Mrs. DelbertE. Jensen of Mantua, on Sept. 21 in the Logan LDS temple. Another Marriage Another Mantua-it- e getting married was Mr. Brent Jeppsen son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph N Jeppsen of Mantua. Brent married Pamela Joy Coates daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne M. Coates on Friday Sept. 21. A reception was held that evening at the Enchanted Evening in Ogden. Pauline Jeppsen president of the Mountain View PTA informs me that the annual Carnival will be held on Halloween this year rather than in the spring. This is to help keep the children off the streets and out of trouble and danger by supplying a fun thing to do. She also informed me that night will be this Thursday. All the other back to schools have been held and one comment made by a women who attends all three. High school. Junior high and grade school was that of how much the teachers and faculty urged parents to become acquainted with the teachers and to talk over problems with them so they can be of a greater help to your children. Mrs. Joan Wallentine expressed her appreciation for how sincerely interested the teachers seemed to be in getting to know the parents and learning all they can about the student as an individual. back-to-scho- |
