If e Producers eye new cross grain Grain producers met March at the Bear River High school ag room and considered the advisability of growing a new cross and pomising wheat-ry- e grain that is proving to yield well in several parts of the United States. The newly developed grain named triticale," has been in tried only experimentally 21 Utah. The farmer group, under direction of NFO Grain . chairman Wynn Henrie, also contracted a sizable amount of this years wheat crop for harvest sale. ; Ron King, NFO marketing area chief, explained the contract and aided in completing the necessary forms. Following cattle producers by only a week, the grain men indicated they could feel fairly secure in believing that such n contracts would put a floor under the market and stabilize grain prices at a tolerable level. t producers met at GSrland on March 15 and blocked about 1,250 head of feeder calves into a contract that c.'s for fall delivery. One noted that these contracts are for calves, many of which have not been born. producer Local Interest Several local farmers became interested triticale in production, when as delegates from Box Elder county, they attended the national NFO convention at Kansas City in December. A Utah county man, Reed Shepherd was winner of several hundred pound bags of seed that was given as a door prize. Shepherd said he had already grown triticale on his farm at Genola and was impressed with the results. He added that he was delighted at the prospect of increasing this years planting by several acres. Chairman Henrie says he can furnish seed to local growers as long as his present supply lasts. At $22 per cwt., the price of this initial seed seems high, but Henrie indicated that there will be sale for good seed produced this year at a 25 percent increase over prevailing market prices. He said the prescribed rate of planting is 80 pounds per acre. 74 3l fl , Book collection will continue Book collection for the Brigham City library will continue until Saturday, March 31, it was announced by the Newcomers club.
