Show 20 BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Briqham City, Utah 1 Thursday, March 15, 1973 Leo Ezra Farnsworth debaters eye state event BEHS Box Elder High school will send a full slate of forensics students to the state meet later on this month, according to Debate Coach Allen Fleming after noting the squads ac- complishment March and at the Region One tournament. What happened there was that the Bees qualified six out of eight debate teams for the state meet, two over the four-tealimit for state competition. Box Elder also qualified a maximum of three in oration, exand impromptu temporaneous speaking in the Utah State bout against Sky View, Logan, Weber, Bonneville, Bear River and Roy. The debate teams qualifying for state contention were John Osburn and Tom Stoddard, undefeated during four rounds; Michelle Burt and Tenna Gibbs, Steve McCosh and Mark Peggy Petersen Sparkman, Eric and Neil Andersen, Kreuger and Craig Caldwell, and Scott Carpenter and Robert Northness, 8 6 Five Qualify Of six contenders in extemporaneous speaking, five Box Elderites qulified: Peggy Petersen, also honored with the top ranking of the entire Region John One tournament, McLaughlin, Juanalee Payne, Tom Stoddard and David Obituaries I After region meet Ezra Leo Farnsworth, 87, Welch. will Hammon Suzanne represent the local school in impromptu speaking after receiving the events top ranking. Also qualifying were John Osburn and Mike Krenn. Contestants who qualified in original oratory were Vicki Hepworth, Julianne Armstrong and Shirleen Hill. Two Contestants Because of the squad's good record in debate and individual events, Coach Fleming explained, the school will be permitted only two additional state contestants in next weeks legislative forum competition, although 14 spots will be filled at the event. Fleming feels that the completion of the state slate is thus virtually certain, making it the finest ever in terms of state qualification for the local squad. The legislative forum on Wednesday will also decide the Region One trophy winner in forensics. Current point standings are Sky View, 139, Box Elder, 114; Logan, 108; Bonneville, 67; Weber, 59; Bear River, 21, and Roy, 9. It is possible to accumulate 50 points in Wednesdays session, making it feasible, Fleming said, "to tip the scales significantly." Logan LDS hospital of natural causes.
