Mortensens the past week. They have been vacationing in San Diego, Calif, and Carls-Ba- d By The Sea. They attended Gloria's class reunion at Carls-BaThey also attrended the Box Elder County fair and a family reunion dinner party at Sherwood Hills restaurant in Sardine canyon and visited many relatives and friends. Kay states that the Bear River Valley is still the choice spot. Celebrates Birthday Helping Mrs. LaVone Nelson her birthday on Saturday were her children Pam and Dave Petersen and daughter Camillle of Salt Lake City, Gary and Terry Nelson of celebrate Brigham Paul City, and Carolyn Nelson from Corinne, Dick and Joy Nelson of Bear River City her father Lester Barker and sisters Tommy Rasmussen and Doris Stander of Brigham City. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mateson from Ely, Nev. visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Mateson last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Christensen and Bessie and Chester Christensen did some fishing at Lynn, three days last week. The Darrel Nicholaisen family attended funeral services in Smithfield last Thursday for Mrs. Nicholaisens grandmother, Mrs. Martha Poulsen. The Bear River camp Daughters of Utah Pioneers will hold their September meeting Friday Sept. 8 at the home of Rita Anderson. A good attendance is desired. Mr. and Mrs. Udell Kearl and family of Roy and Mrs. Sander from Redondo Beach, Calif, visited with the Norman Child family on Friday evening. Mrs. Violet Anderson of Trenton, Nola Burton of Tremonton, Arva Miller of Mendon, Sadie Yates of Harper and Artel Brailsford were busy . Thursday afternoon canning tomatoes for their mother, Mrs. Sine Miller. . w Dinner Guests Carrie and Irving Christensen were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Murray in Ogden. It was Floys birthday on Monday. After dinner Floy and Joe accompanied them to Bountiful to visit the Thirl Christensen family who expect to be in their new home before the first of October. It was especially in- teresting to see the beautiful six month old fox their son Ryan captured in a cage two weeks ago in their back yard. He carries it in his arms, feeds it hamburger and its becoming quite a pet. Mrs. Ruth Munns and her brothers hosted an open house Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stacey in Centerville in honor of their mother Mrs. Christena Stacey. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Archibald were doing some fishing at Lynn last week. Annie Baldwin and Carrie A Christensen accompanied Mrs. Bessie Christensen to Brigham on Saturday. Kimmie Kaminska from Brigham City Richard, Mitzi and Amy Nessler were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Nessler LaPreal Johnsen, Arva Archibald, Velma Graves and Pam Johnsen were Ogden visitors on Saturday. and Mrs. Darrel Mr. Nicholaisen and family visited relatives in Montpelier, Idaho last Sunday and Monday. Leo Miller from Salt Lake City visited his mother several days last week. Mrs. Bessie Christensen celebrated her birthday last Sunday with her family. Her son Kent telephoned from Lousiana early Sunday morning to wish her a happy birthday and the following enjoyed a delicious dinner with her; Mr. and Mrs. and family Bob Christensen from Hyde Park, Mr. and Mrs. from Christensen Curtis Honeyville, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Hansen from Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Dallin and sons and her husband Chester. The new baby of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Grove was given the name Brian Scott in fast and testimony meeting Sunday. He was blessed by his father. Personnel Mrs. Charity Larsen from Roy, Chesta and Ann Campbell from Salt Lake City, Ann Everton and Clifford Jensen from Logan and Mrs. J.W. Iverson from Brigham City had with Mrs. Irving lunch Christensen on Saturday. They all came for the funeral services of Bishop Charles Checketts. Charity and Chesta were members of his Sunday school class in Phoenix, Ariz. for several years. Gordon and Phyllis Holmgren just returned from a trip to Boise and McCall, Idaho. They came home by way of American Falls where they visited a college room mate of their daughter Wendy. Miss Denise Holmgren was the honored guest when Mrs. Nyman Holmgren and Mrs. Dell Holmgren entertained at a bridal luncheon Saturday at Maddox Ranch House. Other guests were girl friends, cousins and their mothers. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hendrickson and children were in Provo Sunday , project (ESS), Science.... Enjoyable Ride Nessler, Carrie and Irving Christensen had an enjoyable ride to Soda Springs last Monday. Nolas husband, Dick has been up there the past two weeks helping with the grain harvest. Mrs. Hildreth Brune a great aunt from Long Beach, Calif, visited recently with the Dennis Cusick family. Mrs. Etta Christensen accompanied her 4&ugfcter and family, the Harvey Hamiltons from Salt Lake City, to Los Angeles recently. Upon their return little Laura Hamilton came home with her grandmother and stayed a few days. Matson Shepard of Salt Lake City spent the long weekend with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Raff Christensen. evening when their daughter Wendy entertained at a personal shower in honor of Denise Holmgren a bride of this week. Luncheon was served to 28 guests. Denise received many lovely gifts. Mrs. Lana R. Hansen a former member of this ward was buried In our local cemetery on Thursday. at A Process Approach (SAPA), and the Science Curriculum Improvement Study (SCIS). These three projects represent the latest approach in the teaching of science in the elementary schools, with articulation into the high schools. Hawkes studied the application of the strategies and philosophies of each of the projects and practice taught (micro-taughtthe units to ) school children in Cedar City. His teaching performance was videotaped on television. Hawkes was selected as one of the most outstanding teachers in the workshop. The objective of the workshop is to have each participant return to his school district or institution and direct institutes and elementary Army Private First Class F. of Hyrum Paetsch, Tremonton, and other members of Company C in the Eighth Infantry Divisions 5th Battalion, 68th Armor, recently raft participated in a five-da- y trip down the beautiful and historic Rhine river in Germany. The trip was designed to add adventure and excitement to the units normal training. A tracked vehicle mechanic with the company, he entered the Army in September 1971 and was last stationed at Ft. Sill, 120-mi- training for school teachers using the latest methods in teaching science at their grade level. Teachers and administrators were selected from most of the states in the United States. The workshop was directed by Dr. Wes Larsen, a veteran science educator and former program officer with the National Science Foundation. Okla. The 1971 graduate High school. The proceeds of the auction will be put into a fund for a special activity next summer. Prior to the picnic on Sept. 6, all M Men and Gleaner bowling fans will meet at the Box Elder North stake center, at 8 p.m. Those interested in going who live in the farming communities may meet at the Bear River ward at 8 : 30 p.m. John Udy of Bear River City and friends from the Air Force reserve recently returned from a trip to Westport, Wash, where they had an enjoyable time fishing for salmon. This was a special workshop funded by the National Science Foundation and was designed for college professors of science, school supervisors, and district administrators. The participants gained experience and enriched their background with units from the Elementary School Science afternoon visiting with their daughter Becky. Mr. and Mrs. Vay Jensen and son Leon and Vays Leon attended fast and testimony meeting in Benson Sunday when the new baby of Rosalee and Danny Thain was given a name and a blessing by its great grandfather Leon Jensen. Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Williams were Sunday dinner guests at the home of their son Mr. and Mrs. Clair Williams in Brigham City then later in the afternoon they visited with Mr. and Mrs. George Perry in Logan. A large crowd attended the funeral services Saturday for Bishop Charles Checketts who passed away at his home in Phoenix last week. John M. Hardy conducted the services. Prayers were offered by Newell Checketts, Ralph Taylor and Whitney Checketts. The prelude and postlude was played by Louise Checketts. Linda and Rosemarie Checketts sang a duet, Darby V. Checketts sang a solo and Linda Checketts sang a solo. They were all accompanied by Wanda Johnsen. The speakers were. Clifford Jensen, Vay Jensen and John Hardy. Sidney Checketts gave the obituary and memories. Burial was in the Bear River City cemetery with George Thornley dedicating the grave. Mr. and Mrs. Creighton Thompson and family from Roy and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Korth and children from Kaysville visited their parents Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Williams on Monday.
