He said there is no com- munication problem in contacting local police, fire or (SASIHI ambulance personnel. S DEAN Holman, adminis- trator of the Davis North Medical Center and chairman of the communication committee of the EMS Council said the committee is looking at alternative methods of purchasing communication equipment since neither the Center or Lakeview Hospital is interested in tying in with a federal grant. He said in any event sophisticated communications equipment will not be available, even if ordered now, until January 1 at the earliest. Davis North Medical DR. FREEMAN also discussed the protocol which would establish the medical person in charge at the scene. He said that good medical practice calls for vital signs to be retaken by paramedics when they arrive on the scene even if the same signs have already been taken by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). EMTs should arrive on the scene first, but as soon as the paramedic arrives, he should take over. Dr. Freeman said. Once the patient is stabilized, he is usually placed in the care of the ambulance EMT. Dr. Freeman said that medical technicians should not become upset if vital signs are taken again. The second trained person on the scene needs to take another look at the stability of the patient also.
