BLODGETT Its to Layton, but Field American Service student Rosette Stucki thinks she might have some relatives living in the area. THERE ARE lots of Stucki(s) that live here who spell their name the same as mine, said the likeable foreign exchange student in broken English. And I think maybe I might find a relative. Rosette will be a senior at Layton High School this year. She is living with the Brent Graham family, 890 E. 2000 North, Layton. : 1 HAD several close relatives who came to the United States years ago and maybe some of these Stucki (s) are my relatives, she surmised. Rosette said she likes Utah, , especially the mountains. But she confesses, that these mountains are not like those of love watching them, said. a long way from Thun, Switzerland her native ROSETTE IS she a high honor student and speaks Swiss, German, French, Italian and English. Then her eyes really lit up as she explained that she will take Spanish at Layton High, a subject not taught in the Swiss public schools. WE SPEAK Swiss-Germa- n at home but read and write in German. Its going to be fun to learn to speak Spanish too, she beamed. Asked what is so different here than in Switzerland, she thought for a minute then smiled. THINGS here are so flat. Your houses are only one story while most houses in my hometown are three or four stories tall. Also, your roads are so wide and cars are so big. In Switzerland, everyone runs to the window to look when a big, American car country. goes by. She said she was immedi- tains in Spain than Switzerland, she said. But she doesnt like the ice in cold drinks served in restaurants. It makes the drink too cold. I can't stand it," she said. Rosette admits that she already is a fanatic and she's only been in this country a couple of weeks. I LOVE to guess I'm a ride horses. I fanatic, she said. Asked what riding horses had to do with being a fanatic, she laughed and replied: "Because only fanatics ride horses in Switzerland. Girls named Ferdie might need to learn to fight, and boys named Pinky might not be able to fight, so say the psychiatrists. Besides which, names can be fun. I wanted to name my daughter Jerusha because its a soft sounding name, but Mr. B would have none of it. He said the softness was in my head. A TALL, dignified man I met last week is principal of a high school in an eastern city of being weighted inspite down with the name Bill Board. If he learned to fight, young, it doesnt show. On the other hand, a young man whose last name was Youpe suffers under the first name of Alley. He even walks as if balancing a chip on each shoulder. ONE OF the major troubles have in remembering names, and there are a horde of such troubles, is with people whose names can be used either backwards or forwards. Such as my distant cousin, Smith Jones. There are approximately two and a half million Smiths in the United States and about 1 she there were many students that came to port to meet me. It nice. In Switzerland, several days before a will even talk to student. the airwas so it takes student a new Rosette said she comes from a community of about 36,000 about 20 miles south of Bern. WHILE AT Layton High, she wants to participate in sports, travel, meet a lot of kids and do the things they do. She also wants to play the cello and be a member of the school's pep club. SPEAKING OF the William Roberts pair, reminds me of another difficulty I have with peoples names. Thats this singular, plural name. One of the reasons I had trouble with that arrangement was that I know a family whose last name is Robert and they do not want it pluralized. Legal Progress The New York State legislature has passed a bill to require all leases in that state be written in language, with words of common and everyday meaning. IT IS a major move in behalf of the vast majority of who arent lawyers, who want to be able to read and understand a lease themselves, not forced to have it interpreted from Americans legalese by an attorney. The bill, introduced by assemblyman Peter Sullivan of Westchester, should be the first of many such laws, state and federal, in various fields of contracting. ALL legalese, of course, is not without merit. Some terms discourage possible future litigation. But much of our legalese is outdated and some actually more confusing than simpler language. Layton Women Voters Seek Funds For Book might contain (behind the leading edge) air of 72 because 10 Archuleta resigned under Do we ever experience cold fronts in August? What is the maximum temperature of a cold front? COLD fronts occur in every month in the year. We might have more of them to pass over us in August than in January. What misleads many about cold fronts is the very name itself. But in summer a cold front degrees, or even 80 degrees. cold front is to be filed before the October A relative temperature considering the time of year and prevailing weather conditions. IN as an AUGUST, example, if the temperature has been reaching 90 degrees or more for several days and a mass of air moves in and over, with temperatures of 80 degrees, then weather men will call it a cold front. In the last part of July, a cold front passed over eastern and southern U.S. bringing a drop in temperature of more than 30 degrees (from 102 to 72 degrees in some areas).
