Ever since I was involved as a coach in the Little League program, whether it be baseball or football, 1 found that many of the adults didnt have the kids in mind when they made some decisions. Bountiful's Eric Johnson BEFORE everyone gets mad at me, let me assure you there are many adults who would and who do anything for the kids playing. But in this case it only takes onebad one to spoil all the efforts of the good ones. team When it comes down to the time when an should be selected, the adults turn it into a circus. At one time I thought the only solution would be either to let the kids pick the team or not pick one at all. By DAVE WIGHAM With August just around the corner the high school athlees are starting to think about the coming football year. And in the area, Davis County, there is a lot of talent on the horizon. EACH AND every school has a standout returning from last years football program, including the new child, Woods Cross, who jump into the fire of varsity action this year. Clearfield for example returns their quarterback Brian Johnson. Brian was considered a top notch signal caller last year as a junior and will be counted on heavily in this his senior year. A veteran quarterback is a key to a high school program. ASIDE FROM being the field general on offense, Brian also anchors a stubborn Falcon defense from his linebacker spot. Layton has a couple of big horses running backs in Maurice Turner and tackle Chuck Ehin. Maurice has the speed needed to go outside and the power to run up the middle. Turner has the potential to be one of the top running backs in the state this year. CHUCK EHIN, the 6 4 giant, was one of very few sophomores to ever letter in football as a sophomore. This year as a junior, he could be awesome. lb. German brown trout, caught by Max H. Mifflin, was weighed at Bowmans Market in Kaysville one hour after being caught. The catch was 24 inches long, and was caught above Taggarts on the Ulcher River in Weber County on a green lure. Mr. Mifflin, who shows the fish to his 2'2 year old daughter, Mary Kaye. The Mifflins live at 689 North Adamswood Road, East A 7V2 Viewmont returns their two top quarterbacks from last year, Tim Egan and Kevin Hess. Its likely that Coach Jones will switch one of them to another position to utilize their full potential. Hess probably saw more playing time and has been working hard on his passing, while Egan will probably be moved to a receiver spot. League finished its season with the Cubs and Orioles tied for the lead. In a dramatic playoff the Cubs won the league championship. state championship squad but with the likes of Ryan Hill returning, the Darts could be tough again as always. As one of the Dart coaches mentioned, Ryan could be the best quarterback in the state next year if he wants to. Hill can throw the ball and likes to run with it as well, and in that double wing offense, that spells trouble. WOODS without their star either, as one of the best all around athletes in the area, Jeff Ostler, will be at the Wildcat school. A shoulder operation has been healing for all summer and word is that Jeff is ready to go, come football. A top notch running back this little speedster could surprise quite a few people, come football season.
