Show 1 WEEKLY REFLEX-DAV- NEWS JOURNAL, JULY 14, 1977 IS i i i f I 4 n 4 'i- - Members of the Kaysville police department include, to r, Robert Mednick, Dave Helquist, Lyle Larkins, Ron Barton, Elmer Morrison, Val Morton and Reed Heslop. 1 KAYSVILLE POLICE The Kaysville Police Force men is an admirable group who provide necessary police protection for our community. of MEMBERS of the force include Lyle Larkins, chief of police who has served for the past 17 years; Elmer Morrison, It., who has 14 years of service; Dave Helquist, sgt., with five years; Robert Mednick, patrolman, with three years; Ron Barton, patrolman, two years; Val Morton, patrolman, one year; and Reed Heslop who recently joined the force. Has one ever stopped to realize the tremendous service our police department offers to our community as well as each individual. Their services are limitless and they are so willing to render sendee to anyone at anytime whether on or off duty. WHENEVER AN emergency arises, the first thought is the police department, where one is sure they will on duty and willing to assist them. These men are also a great asset to find someone the city fire department, with all of their special training. They assist in all fire calls and emergency calls. They are all servirg as members of the fire squad. Some member of the police department are usually enrolled in special and updated courses of police work to provide our community with the best protection possible and latest techniques. The men are required to take eight weeks of basic training with the Utah Police Academy. EACH AND every year, all are required to complete a training course. They have all officers become certified with P.O.S.T. (Police Officers Standards & Training). Chief Larkins said all of his men have completed the first aid crash injury management course which is quite an extensive course in mouth to mouth resuscitation, general first aid, bandaging, etc. Chief Larkins has over 100 post credit hours. LT. MORRISON has been e invesserving as a tigator since May 1, 1977. He is specializing in weapons, fire arms which qualifies him as improved instructor officer of this department. Sgt. Helquist is specializing in finger printing and photography. full-tim- THE Kaysville Police Department received a federal grant which will provide the force to hire a juvenile officer and Officer Robert Mednick who has handled most of Kaysvilles juvenile related problems and paper work has been authorized by Kaysville City Council to accept this appointment and position. Officer Val Morton has acquired 40 hours in photography school and he will assume this roll on the force. THREE OF the men, in ade dition to their job as police officers, are also taking classes at Weber State full-tim- College weekly. Some of the qualifications to apply for a police officer are: must be 23 years of age or older, must be a high school graduate and must be able to pass the required tests and examinations, have a good driving record as well as a good credit rating. They are interviewed by a panel and screened thoroughly before being accepted. there three are policemen on duty during day time hours, two on swing shift and one on grave yard. He and Mayor Glen Cundall are well pleased with the quality of men on the force. Their job is interesting as well as hazardous at times, but they are there to serve and support the community.
