In 1953, she came to Davis High and was promptly made the Dart advisor because of her journalism experience. At that time, the Dart put out five issues a year, a contrast to the 15 issues now put out. Mrs. Thatcher became chairman of the English Department in 1960. She says that it has been "a privilege to help determine the curriculum, and working with the outstanding people who have been English teachers. As chairman, she helped initiate the accelerated English program, herself teaching accelerated English for eight years.
