Show Wednesday, November Vernal Express 1 9, 2003 B7 awards for PDQ team penning Year-en-d Vernal's PDQ Team Penning held its year-en- d Jackpot on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, with the Friday night Saddle Series being won by Ray Morris, Tony Kazeck and Ilene Fedclleck. The saddles were given for the most points that a person could get for participating in the club's Wednesday night pennings and the placing of the jackpot on Friday was given to Curt Smuin, Rhett Searle, Clary n Gardner with a 56.18. Fastest time for outside was given to Brett Hancock, Cindy Hancock and Lola Searle with 82.60. winners were Ray Moms. IXmii Christolterson, Lola Searle. I eah Harrison. Ilene Fedclleck. Bud Perry, JB Hunsukcr and Ashley Van. Fastest time for the year indvws night. Open Sort Friday winners were Ray Morris, Don Jenson and Garth Horrocks. Every year the club gives away a stick horse for those that had a hard time staying in the saddle and landing on the ground. This years Northeastern Utah Fishing Report Updated November I ! BROUGH RESERVOIR No new reports. Old report: fair fishing for rainbow and brown trout. Note new regulations: Artificial flies and lures only, no bait in possession and a two trout limit. Water level is low. To get to Brough, take State Route 88 south from US Route 40 (Ouray Road). Tum west at the second dirt road past the high power lines. Follow this road approximately two miles staying to the left at each main fork. Road is quite rutted. BROWNIE SPIRIT LAKE Single report of good fishing from Browne for trout. Area has received more snow and rain, access to Spirit Lake likely impassable. CALDER CROUSE RESERVOIRS Report of good fishing at Calder. Low water levels. Area has received more rain and snow, expect muddy roads. Crouse winterkilled last year and has not been refilled. New limit on Calder is eight fish. All other regulations remain in effect including the four fish limit on Matt Warner. CURRANT CREEK RESERVOIR Report of good fishing between storms. Roads to boat ramp will be open. Road to campground questionable as area hasis receiv ing more snow. FLAMING GORGE RESERVOIR Anvil Draw ramp is closed due to low water. Lake trout fishing has been very good at Linwood Bay. To protect spawning fish, Linwood Bay is closed to night fishing from 6 PM through 7 a m. October 15 through December 15. Other good locations include Stateline, Sheep Creek and Rawlins Draw. Troll flatfish, rapalas or a popgearminnow combination on or near the bottom using steel line or a downrigger, or jig over structure and along drop-off- s using large jigs or spoons, perhaps tipped with a minnow or sucker meat. There are many small- - and medium-size- d lake trout in Ranting Gorge, so please harvest a limit. Kokanee salmon fishing is fair using small fluorescent lures, with or without a flasher, or jigging small spoons. Rainbow trout fishing is very good using Power Bait or a combination. Boat fishermen are having good SOCIAL results trolling small spoons, crankbaits, or a popgearworm combo; and casting lures or jigs near shoreline areas. Good areas include Sheep Creek, Linwood Bay and Buckboard. Smallmouth bass fishing is slow with cooler water temperatures. GREEN RIVER (upper) Rows are 800 cfs with no fluctuation. Dry fly fishing has been good using terrestrial patterns including hoppers, beetles and ants. Scattered caddis and PMD hatches have provided additional surface action. For nymph fishing try simple or bead-hea- d RS-I- I, midge, size 2 WD-4or pheasant tails, size 0; olive, orange, tan or pink or hare's ears, scuds, size 10-1A popular technique is size dropping a midge or baetis nymph behind a large attractor pattern. For streamer fishing, try brown, tan or olive wooly buggers, size 6, and minnow imitations. Spin fishermen should try small rapalas; spinners; black, brown or olive marabou jigs; and tube jigs. New Zealand Mudsnail densities have dramatically increased in several localized areas near and downstream of Little Hole. Please thoroughly clean mud and vegetation from waders, boats and fishing gear, and if possible, completely dry equipment before leaving the area. MATT WARNER RESERVOIR Reports of good fishing prior to the storms. Can still launch small boats. Some vegetation along the bank but anglers can still find areas to fish. Access will be more difficult due to snowstorms. PELICAN LAKE No new reports from anglers, reservoir mostly being used by waterfowl hunters. Water level is low so trying to launch boats from trailers is not recommended. Canoes float tubes and small boats that can be put in from anywhere are the best bet RED RESERVOIR FLEET of for trout, fishing good Reports slow fishing for bass and no recent reports on bluegill. STARVATION RESERVOIR of for brown trout. good Reports No new reports on walleye or bass. Lake levels remain high. Studies indicate the forage base is in jeop- 0, 16-2- 4; ardy as few if any young chubs are reaching an age to reproduce. The only way to ensure future fishing is to remove predators (smaller walleye and bass) so the forage fish fingerlings survive to replace the breeding population before it dies out.
