Show Wednesday, February 19, 2003 Vernal Express B5 Pink r honored by AVMC By Virginia Harrington Express Feature Writer Austin Anderson Local Pink Ladies, volunteers who donate hundreds of hours to serving patients at Ashley Valley Medical Center, were honored at a Ranch in the dinner Restaurant Feb. 13. Si Hutt, chief executive officer of AVMC, told the volunteers and their guests that the hospital is stronger because of their presence. "Our standard of performance relies on our attitude of working together," said Hutt. "The volunteers make a visit or stay in the hospital more pleasant for patients. People come to the hospital at a difficult time in their lives and we need to meet their needs. Speaking of improvements in AVMC during the past year, Hutt said $1.8 million was spent on new or upgraded equipment. He commented that the hospital continues to educate the staff and to actively recruit physicians. He also said the anticipated expansion of the medical center will start in May with the realignment of the 200 West road and actual construction should start in late summer. Mark Holyoak, chief clinical officer of AVMC, presented awards to those volunteers with the highest number of hours worked during the past year. Iona Williams worked 540 hours, Velma Ferguson worked 410 hours and Tomi Bristow worked 283 hours. The total number of hours donated by the Pink Ladies for the year was 4,200. Holyoak also honored those with the highest number of years of service. Nancy Grua and Iona Williams have both served for 20 years and Jean Smith has served for 10 years.
