Show A4 Vernal Express Wednesday, February 19, 2003 Obituaries Pamela Lou Conner Pamela Lou Conner Ace Neal Batty Ace Neal Hatty, age 21, passed away Feb 15, 2003 at Ashley Valley Medical Center. Ace was bom July 19, 1981 to Joe and Tonya Batty Alexander. Ace was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints, but he studied and respected all other faiths and religions. His computer was his favorite thing, which aided him in his quest for knowledge. He loved television, animals and the company of his family-h- is is already greatly missed. He is survived by his parents, Joe and Tonya Alexander; sister, Alexis (Brandon) Fletcher of Vernal; grandparents, Neal and Myma Batty of Venial; Harold and Gene Gore of Calif.; Don and Kay Sanger, Johnson of Vernal; niece, McKala Fletcher of Vernal and numerous y aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenny Johnson and grandfather, Don Alexander. Funeral services will be Feb. 20 at 11 am. in the Vernal 2nd Ward call Friends may Chapel. 8 from 6 to Wednesday evening p.m. and on Thursday at the chapel one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thomson-BlackbuVernal Mortuary. m Grant Max Smith Grant Max Smith, age 86, died Feb. 6, 2003, in Vernal. He was bom Dec. 6, 1916, in Farmington to Clarence E. and Violet Rachel Coleman Smith. He married Lon a D. Huggins Nov. 21, 1961, in F.vanston, Wyo. Funeral services were held Feb. 10 at the Thomson-BlackbuVernal Mortuary with Mitchell Blackburn conducting. Marqueita Bowthropc provided the prelude music and the invocation was given by Jeffery McGuffin. Rosalind Ralphs gave the obituary followed by a musical, Ole Shep, by Lynn Hackford. Speaker Howard Warren was followed by another musical, Gathering flowers for the Masters Bouquet, also by Lynn Hackford. Then Terry Buxton spoke, followed by the benediction by Bert Clark. Postlude music was provided by Marqueita Bowthropc. Dedication of the grave was by Dr. Hal Mitchell. Internment was at the Vernal Memorial Park and military honors were provided by the American legion. Pallbearers were Cordell Bowen, Kent Ralphs, Carl Christensen, Larry Ralphs, Leon Morris and Blaine Ralphs. Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Jeffrey Ralphs, Bert McGuffin, Christensen, Cormac McGuffin, Veldon Rowley, and Joe Adam Christensen Christensen. Kelsi Nicole Simmons Kelsi Nicole Simmons, bom Feb. 2003, daughter of Louis and Kristine Cook Courtney Simmons of Vernal, returned to her loving Heavenly Father as quickly as she came. Funeral services were held Feb. 8 in the Maeser 3rd Ward Chapel with Bishop Mikel Reynolds conducting. The invocation was given by Arden W. Cook and Bishop Mikel Reynolds read the obituary, followed by a congressional hymn, Be Can Families Together Forever. Courtney Simmons then spoke, followed by another congressional hymn, I Am a Child of God. Remarks were given by Bishop Mikel Reynolds and the benediction was given by Greg Cook. Internment was at Rock Point Cemetary with the dedication of the grave given by Louis E. Simmons. The pallbearer was Courtney Simmons. 5. Pamela Lou Conner passed away Feb. 8, 2003. Bom in Kentucky Sept. 10, 1951 to Earl and Ruth Krause, she grew up in Michigan and moved to California after graduating high school. She married Rick Connor March 14, 2000 and moved to Vernal with her husband a year and a half ago. She loved the wide open spaces and the beauty of this area. She had a free spirit and a passion for horses. She was a very giving soul and was the second person ever to become an organ donor at Ashley Valley Medical Center. She is survived by her husband, Rick Connor; mother, Ruth Krause; daughter, Nicole Morrison; sister, Deborah Boyse, She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Krause and her brother, Earl Krause, Jr. Funeral services will be held in California with her friends and family, where she loved to ride. Shirley Elaine Allred Kloeppel Shirley Elaine Allred Kloeppel. 68, passed away peacefully at home Feb 11, 2003. She was bom July 2. 1934 to George V. and Zelma R Allred in Blackfoot, Idaho. She graduated from San Juan High School in Sacramento, Calif. Shirley married Wallet llemy Kloeppel on May 29, 1953 in lair Oaks, Calif. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug 17, 1955 Shirley enjoyed going to the temple and doing genealogy as well as She crocheting and gaidening worked for the Uintah School District, Cleat field Job Coip. and American Gilsonite Co. Shiiley was a losing wile, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She will be deeply missed by her family ami tends. He was bom Oct. 20, 1925 in Vernal to Charles and Viola Watkins Goodrich. He married Lena Goodrich on August 29, 1951 in Cody, Wyo. Clinton worked as a Gilsonite miner for the American Gilsonite for 34 years. He was a member of the Church Saints. of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y He enjoyed hunting, picnicking, farming, gardening, and his cattle. Fie loved his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lena Isabelle Kimbel Goodrich; children, William (Christine) Dye of Vernal; Marie (Lonnie) McGill of Maeser; Dawnette (Don) Gibbs of La Verkin; of Kim (Jaunita) Goodrich Vernal; Goodrich; Ezma (Loran) Reynolds of Vernal; lone (Thad) Stringham of Salt Lake City, siblings, Venna grandchildren, 14 grandchildren and 15 great-greUtah; 12 grandchildren. On-lin- Vere Larsen Vere Larsen was bom Feb. 15, 1921 in Colman, S.D. to parents (Anderson) Wiggo and Mary Larsen. He entered into eternal life Feb. 13, 2003 at the Momingside Manor Nursing Home in Alcester, S.D. at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 28 days. Vere graduated from Colman High School in 1939. In the fall of 1939 he entered South Dakota State School of Pharmacy. During college he apprenticed at Snow Drug in Sioux Falls, S.D. On Aug. 30, 1941 Vere married lone Culp of Dell Rapids, S.D. In 1944 he graduated from the School of Pharmacy. After graduating college he served in the United States Navy for two years. Upon his honorable discharge Vere worked for Pinard Drug. In 1947 Vere purchased Lee Drug in Alcester and in 1952 he also purchased Lewis Drug and combined the two stores into Larsen Drug. Vere then sold the drug store to William (Bud) Pederson in 1983 and retired in 1987. He resided in Alcester until the present time. Some of Veres accomplishments and awards are the A H. Robbins Bowl of Hygea Award for outstanding community service in pharmacy. Community Better Life Award from the American Nursing Home Association in recognition for unselfish and dedicated effort in behalf of better health care of the aged and the Presidents Award of South Dakota Pharmacy Association in recognition for outstanding service and contributions as well as many other awards and achievements. Vere served on the Alcester School Board for 13 years and was past president. He was also of the School Reorganization Program, a charter member of Lions Club serving as past president, past president of the Commercial Club, a member of the Alcester Golf Club serving as past president and secretary for many years and Commander of Alcester American Legion Post 6149. Vere, along with three other businessmen, spearheaded the efforts to bring die Momingside Manor Nursing Home to Alcester and served on the Nursing Home Board since its inauguration. He was also a member of the El Riad Shrine Chanters, past president of South Dakota State Pharmaceutical Association and served two years on the South Dakota State Board of Health. Vere was an active member of the United Church of Christ and an associate member of the United Church of Sun City in Sun City, Ariz. Along with spending time with his family, Vere enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling and his cabin on Lake Madison. He and his wife wintered in Sun City, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Gamette and five brothers; Floyd, Oge, Shirley, Leo Manford Eugene Woodruff Manford Eugene Woodruff, age Alfred 86, passed away Feb. 14, 2003 in Holladay. He was bom May 30, 1916 in Vernal to Henry Eugene Nemec Alfred Nemec Alfred Nemec, age 86. passed away Feb. 13, 2003 at the Uintah Care Center. He was bom Feb. 9, 1917 m Philadelphia, Penn, to Rudolph and Julia Fischer Nemec. He man ml Genevieve Haladay, Oct. 19. 19 H in Wakefield, Mass. She preceded him in death, Aug. 24, 2001. Allud was a cabinetmaker and a skilled craftsman in antiques. He lncd m Vernal off and on for 30 yeais. He was a veteran of World War 11 selling as a recruiter and a shurpshootc in the U.S. Marines. He graduated from Uintah High School and attended Young Brigham University. He married Norma Neff Peterson, from Holladay, Sept. 14, 1936 in Evanston, Wyo. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1937 on their anniversary and made their home in Holladay. He loved the outdoors and sports, especially baseball. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, he was the scout leader in his ward for many years and served in many positions. Norma and his family were the love and enjoyment of his life. He overcame many health problems and kept his great sense of humor 7 through it all. He is survived by his children, Eugene (Marilyn) Woodruff of Las Barr Nev.; Vegas, (Cathy) Woodruff of Holladay; Estella (Robert) Wilkes of Rexburg, Idaho; Harold (Janet) Woodruff of West Valley City; sister Chrystal Perry, living with her daughter Belva (Alan) Richardson of Centennial, Colo.; Estella Glines, living near her daughter Margie (Duane) Wilkins of Mesa, Ariz.; Helen (Richard) Offutt of Vernal; 18 grandchildren and 33 He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, his son, Keith, his parents and his brothers Richard and Harold.
