Seip makes all kinds of jewelry out of the wood from sagebrush and Most people do not sec any use for sagebrush. Many even find it to be a nuisance. Jerry Seip is not one of those people. He found a use for sagebrush and he even found a way to make it beautiful Seip, who moved to Vernal from Craig, Colo,, with his wile almost two years ago, said he was camping in Moffat County, Colo., when he got stuck There was a little sagebrush around, Seip said, so I cut some of it down and put it under the tires and I noticed it had a grain After that, he said he decided a wood with a grain like that could be beautiful even though most people think sagebrush is just a stinky old lilac, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, belt buckles and bolo ties by smoothing the wood and cutting it into shapes. He has also pieced squares of the smoothed wood together to make clocks and even entire countertops. The price of most jewelry starts at $10 and goes up from there. In addition to many forms of jews detailed miniature replicas of rooms, the centerpieces of which are clocks. He has done special orders for people, including replicas of shops, tack rooms and the fire department in Craig, Colo Seip is currently elry, Seip also hand-carve- incites public UDOT long-rang- e g 7-- Basin Applied Technology College, Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, Duchesne of Commerce, Chamber County and Employer Council Uintah High School. He added he doesnt make much money selling them at that price, but its just a hobby. Seip works out of a shop he built onto his garage at his home in Vernal. He uses tixils such as a mini lathe, drill, setter and saw to carve the sagebrush and lilac wood. Some of the jewelry he has made can be found at the gift shop in Naples Country Cafe as well as in a store in Craig, Colo., and his shop is decorated with the many ribbons he has won for his work at fairs.
