Roberts Sports Editor Borges Homers No Pitchers Dual As Gold Hammers Carbon It isnt a pleasant prospect for any picher to have to face a Carbon or a Tooele line-uIn fact it is downright hazardous to ones health. This fact was brought out again Tuesday when the Gold and the Comets, battled for three hours and 38 minutes before Tooele came out on top 17-1- 3 at s field. Carbon used three pitchers, Joel Parker, Scott Job and Dave Knox Dow-Jame- Playing Better Tennis Now d instructional course. In the 5 innings Westland worked he limited Carbon to just three hits and three runs, none of them earned. It was the dreaded base on balls that gave Carbon its three runs. Westland walked five and three of those walks were issued to lead-of- f hitters and all three scored. Other than these temporary streaks of wildness Westland permitted just three balls to be hit out of the infield. Tooeles winning run came off the bat of center fielder Ed Borges who led off the eighth inning with a tape measure home run. Carbons left fielder Knox didnt chase Borges blast very far in fact Knox just turned his back on the poke, stopped and watched the ball sail over the left field fence and up on the track of the rodeo - grounds. Borges blast put Tooele, out in front before the Gold went on to score three more runs in the eighth frame to ice the game. 14-1- 3 After Borges homered, Mike Young singled, Mike Cateneso singled, Jack Finley doubled, and Ed Santa singled to put Tooele out in front Westland, gave up a hit and a walk in the top of the ninth but 17-1- 3. forced Bill Chamberlain to pop out to Billy Porterfield in foul territory at firstbase, and Tooele had its second win over Carbon. Carbon Leads At the end of three and a half innings, Carbon was coasting along with a 10-- lead when the Tooele bats erupted for seven runs. Rick Anderson got the spinning with a f double, Cataneso and Finley singled with Finleys single driving in Anderson, then with one out, Porterfield was walked 17-1- 3 hitter, this combo is completely wrecking opposing pitchers. Finley, in Tooeles last three home games is batting .356, with five hits in 14 trips to the plate, giving the pair of Finley and Santa a combined batting average of .467. Tuesdays game Carbon 5 merry-go-roun- d rf Chamberlain, lead-of- intentionally, bringing Steve Weiser to the plate with the bases loaded. Weiser fouled up the Carbon strategy by singling sharply to drive in Cataneso and leaving the bases loaded. Borges then came through with a single driving in Finley and Santa. Mike Youngs single, a perfect sacrifice by Davidson, and another single by Anderson and Tooele was in front 12-1- 1. 13-1- 3 Tie 2 lead In the fifth on Finleys single, another single by Porterfield, with Finley scoring on Weisers sacrifice fly. 3 in their Carbon tied it at half of the seventh inning on a lead off walk to Jerry Wragg, with Wragg scoring on Knoxs fielders Tooele took a 13-1- 13-1- choice. Then Tooele put the game out of reach in the eighth inning with a four run explosion. ' Five Tooele batters, Anderson, Cataneso, Finley, Santa and Young came up with three hits each with Santa, who is on a hitting rampage, batting in four runs. In Tooeles last three home games Santa has cracked out nine hits in 16 trips to the plate for a .563 average and has driven in 13 runs. Manager Ang Cerroni has come up with a deadly combination in Santa and Finley. Alternating them as catcher and designated Moon, lb Parker, p Job,p . Tooele Anderson, 3b Weiser, 2b Borges, cf .
