PROPOSED NERVE AGENT INCINERATION TESTING AT THE CHEMICAL AGENT MUNITIONS DISPOSAL SYSTEM FINDING OF NO SIGNIFICANT IMPACT An Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared by the Department of the Army that discussed the proposed testing of nerve agent disposal through incineration at the Chemical Agent Munitions Disposal System (CAMDS), Tooele Army Depot, Tooele, Utah. Preliminary tests to determine the feasibility of nerve agent incineration demonstrated that the operation is technically feasible while meeting all agent and industrial pollutant emission requirements. Additional tests are planned to assess the feasibility of full scale incineration of nerve agent filled munitions. The EA discusses the proposed operation and any associated environmental impacts. The EA indicated that this is not a major federal action that would significantly affect the quality of the human environment; therefore, it has been determined that an Environmental Impact Statement is not SLB&M. Two alternative courses of action are also addressed in the EA: (1) the No Action alternative which involves continued retention of the agent filled munitions in storage, and (2) chemical neutralization of nerve agent.
