Apathy, in terms of low voter turnout, could find a small percentage of the total registered voters giving the School District the authority to issue bonds to acquire property, construct buildings, equip classrooms, and to assess taxes over a period of 20 years. On the other side of the coin, a small voter turnout could defeat the proposal and deny the District the right to build modern schools to meet state stand northeast area, to the north of seventh May 11 election is: Shall Juab School north street, and the second is southeast of District be authorized to issue and sell bonds of the board in the amount of ) Nephi. property east of the Rancho Trailers Plant. We sincerely solicit the vote of the majority of the registered voters of Juab School District so that the outcome of the election be it for or against the bonding proposal will be the true thinking of a true majority. Here's Levan weather report Richard May has handed us this discussion of The Charter of Childrens Rights of the National Council of Civil Liberties. The discussion as below was circulated by the Small Business Association, Inc., and gives each of us much to think about. Read it, study it, and then send a letter to your Senator and Representative concerning it. The Congressional Record states concerning this bill: The intent of this bill is for the government to be responsible for the nutritional interests of your child, and for all psychological interests of your child. What is at issue is whether the parent shall continue to have the right to mold the character of the children or whether the State, with all its power and magnitude, shall be given the decisive tools and techniques for forming the young lives of the children of this country. As a matter of the childs right, the Government shall exert control over the family because we have recognized that the child is not the care of the parents but the care of the State. We recognize, further, that not parental but communist forms of upbringing have an unquestionable superiority over all other forms. Furthermore, there is serious question that maybe we cannot trust the family to prepare young children in this country for this new kind of world which is emerging. If you want this bill stopped you had better get in contact. Write your Representative in Washington. The Bill will be coming out of Committee soon and surely none of us could live with this kind of governmental control. Opposition to the proposed change in the zoning status of property adjacent to the present highway south of Nephi seemed to outweigh the for voices at the hearing on the proposal held Monday afternoon, County Commisfollowing the day-lon- g sioners meeting. Harlow W. Pexton, chairman of the County Planning and Zoning Commission conducted the hearing, which was concerned as to whether the recommendation of the Zoning Commission should or should not be adopted. The zoning Commission had earlier Alvin 'Al' Burton Reminders . . . Information reg There is before the Congress of the United States Legislation known as The Child and Family Service Act of 1975. Charter of Childrens Rights of the National Council of Civil Liberties is becoming part of the Child Development Act. Following are four of the several items proposed in this charter. You talk about the deficiencies of the present high school building. Just what are these deficiencies? The high school was inspected by the State Fire Marshals office on March 25, 1974. Twenty-nin- e distinctive deficiencies were noted by the Deputy fire marshals who made the inspection. The department said that the school board needed to replace or cover acoustical tile on all ceilings, install a fire alarm system with a separate tone and pull stations throughout the building, connect heating fans with the alarm system to shut them down automatically, provide a covered exit from the auditorium to the outside, replace most doors in the building with solid core doors and install panic hardware, enclose all stairways with one hour fire doors top and Patient list Patients at the Juab County Hospital as of Tuesday morning included the following: Melanie Ann Carter, Nephi Veneer Coombs, Fountain Green Regina Garfield, Nephi Kate Ingram, Nephi Jeff Jarrett, Nephi Julie Kendall, Levan Kelly Kendall, Nephi Jolene Larsen, Santaquin Toni Nielsen, Nephi Vera Paxman, Nephi Pam Searle, Payson Alleen Sherwood, Levan Margaret Tomblin, Eureka Juanita Walker, Nephi recommend to the Board that the change in the zoning status of the property in question be made to permit construction of a motel and restraurant complex. It appeared according to County Clerk Earl L. Warner, that there was. a slight majority opposing the change. The County Commission will call a meeting soon to consider propositions presented at the hearing and to make a final decision. The recommendation of the Zoning Commission was that the zoning status of other property, south and east of Nephi be left as at present. ' In a secound public hearing, the Commission decided that the road which has caused contention in the Callao area will be taken off the County Foad system, but will remain open. The new road will be placed on the County Road system and will be maintained in the future. The Commissioners turned down an. application for a beer sales license at Yuba State Boating Park, and approved expenditure of $1,500 from the Convention Bureau Special Reserve Fund to assist the Chamber of Commerce in maintaining an employee at the information bureau at the Nephi City Park. by-pa- ss The Board of County Commissioners approved the purchase of a truck from Parkin Motor Company for the amount of $5,426.00 The bids for the purchase were called for following a recent Commission meeting. The State Department of Education inspected the building at the same time and rated it for structural and physical quality and educational adequacy. The department This is an old, inflexible said that structure that rates from fair to poor in meeting the needs of a modern educational program. Structually, the building is fair but difficult to remodel into a good educational plant. The site was rated extremely small with no room for expansion. The site for a high school should be approximately 35 acres. the department recommended. Electrical, mechanical, and architectural engineers have indicated the need for a complete renovation of the electrical mechanical, and ventilation systems. The renovation will be critical if the building is remodeled. 2. Is it possible to build the middle It would appear to be impossible to do anything more with a middle school than is being done at present without a new building so a physical separation of the two schools could be accomplished. If the middle school is to be successful, it must be organized separate from the high school with its own goals, objectives, and programs designed for students of middle-schoage. 3. Is the property being considered for a site going to cost $6,000 per acre? Absolutely not. The sites under consideration for the new school complex have been appraised in the area of $1500 and $2000 per acre. The Board will need to pay a fair market value for any property it acquires. 4. Where can I get detailed information on the bonding proposal? Attend the public information meeting in the high school auditorium tonight (Thursday) at 8:00 p.m. ol |
