According to Laird, the cornices are what cause the snow slides in Salt Creek. Mr. Foote currently is chairman of the Board of Juab County Commissioners, and is now in his third year as commissioner. He served as secretary of the Nephi Irrigation Company, also for several years until recently. Far across the country, Shirley Pahnke Foote was born in Brooklyn, New York where she spent the first six years of her life before coming to Salt Lake City with her parents, where Mr. Pahnke has worked with the Deseret News Press throughout the years. Shirley is an accomplished pianist and served as accompanist in the Primary and also in the MIA. Active in club work, she is secretary-elec- t of the Nautilus Club, and has served in other capacities. Her family and her home come first in her desires and her responsibilities. Eldest young man in the family is Richard Jr., 15, now completing the ninth grade at the Juab Junior High School. Richard was eighth grade class president and also has been president of the WASP club, an active organization at the school. We Are Special WASP stands for People, Richard Jr. stated. He has been active in Little League baseball, and is a member of the JHS tennis team. He was manager of the Jr. Varsity basketball team during the past school year, and has been very active in the Seminary organization, serving as first year vice president and participating in Seminary programs throughout the stake. Active in the Nephi First Ward, he is Dresident of the Teachers quorum. Carol Lynne is nearing her fourteenth birthday anniversary, and already is a r veteran of activities. She is taking a home cooking course this year, with Susie Worthington and Brenda Ferre as club leaders. Carol is completing a term as secretary of the junior high school, and will be vice president during the 1973-7- 4 school year. She has gained the honor roll most terms, and is a student of piano. Carol enjoys Sunday School and MIA activities in the Nephi First Ward. five-yea- 4-- Elizabeth Ann is eight years of age, and a student in the Third Grade at Juab District Elementary School. Most of all she enjoys art and social studies, and also is enjoying piano lessons taken at the Nephi School of Music. Stephen Charles Foote is six, and told us that he was almost Ixirn on Mother's Day. He has attended and enjoyed kindergarten with Mrs. Beckstead as his teacher. Stephen likes to paint and is learning his letters at kindergarten, and sometimes serves as helper" in the class. Douglas Kent, the family's youngest, wasnt doing much talking while we visited with them recently but it was easy to see that his older brothers and sisters really had a special liking for the little fellow shared by his parents 100 per cent. David Wilkey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene E. Wilkey has earned a place on the honor roll at Dixie College, maintaining a 4.00 grade point average. David also has been named a finalist in the outstanding student selection at Dixie. He is one of six freshmen men named for the finals. At Utah State University at Logan, Gerald Kent Carter, Levan; Brenda Boswell and George Jackson of Nephi have attained honor roll status for the winter quarter. Three Nephi students at Southern Utah State College also gained honor rol status: Deborah Belliston, Debra Park, and Gregory Stuart. Also at Souther Utah State, Paula Newell of Mona is participating in a special teaching project, tutoring disadvantaged Cedar City children on all education levels. Poppy day set for Saturday Residents of East Juab County are invited by the American Legion Auxiliary members to Buy a Poppy as the annual day is observed Saturday. Poppy day has been conducted annually by the ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary to honor the dead of World War I and II as well as other conflicts, and to aid the living veterans who, because of incapacitating injuries, are confined to hospitals throughout the country.
