I keep hearing about liposuction, bit safe and b it really a solution for someone like me? A. 1997 will mark the 22nd anniversary of liposuction. This longstanding plastic surgery procedure has been improved many times over the years contributing to the very low complication rate when done by board certified pLstic surgeons and the high patient satisfaction. Very simply, liposuction involves removing pockets of fat with a thin tube, caQeu a cannula, which is inserted into the fat area through a tiny indsion. Liposuction is appropriate for regional or spot removal of fat bom healthy people who have good skin elasticity. The tumescent technique is the most recent advancement in liposuction. In addition to being able to more precisely sculpt the body you desire, tumescent liposuction has many advantages, irxduding minimal bruising and a more rapid recovery time. This is the time of year many of our patients consider having liposuction so that they will have a more sculpted figure (or active shape) in time for summer. Dr. W. Dear Dr. Winder, Q After years of sun expoI've sure, got some sensitive, discolored areas on my shoulder. Should I be concerned about skin cancer? Does a plastic surgeon handle this? A. You can never be too careful with skin cancer. Monitoring skin lesions and irregularities is the responsibility of dermatologists, plastic surgeons and patients. You should definitely have that area checked. The larger diagnosed skin cancers are, the more likely that they will require careful surgical excision and reconstructive work. Bound certified plastic surgeons are among the best qualified to remove skin cancers because of their surgical background. Dr. W. ' i t f 4 t f M M 1J |
