Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday January 6, 1992 - Page 2 EDITORIAL A New Year is underway This is the first issue of another year, 1993. And, as is usual for this time of year, we have a few goals, resolutions .... for the arrival of Or, rather, a a new year is not so much a time to celebrate what is to come as it is to pay tribute to the past. We can then reflect on what was good and set new goals, so as to improve ... thus making a commitment to the future while building on the past. But this means While some may shudder at that word, we realize that time marches on and so shall we. Looking back at the past few months we realize there have been mistakes, some small and some not so small, but they are all right there in black and white for posterity and historians to view change. forever. There is not a newspaper in the world that does not make mistakes. But there is also not a journalist who doesnt shudder having made one. As we strive to give our readers the most accurate and timely information, we too, will strive to limit our mistakes and learn from them. There is quite a bit we all can do to improve, both individually and as a community (yes, San Juan County and even the Four Corners area can be called a community). Good things do not happen without commitment and they do not happen without people giving of their time, energy and talents ... whatever those may be. Volunteerism is the thread which holds the nation together and makes our towns a better place to live. There is plenty we all can do, if only we are gracious and courageous enough to give of ourselves. As we move forward into a new year, we should all look forward to new challenges and growth. We at the San Juan Record look forward to the new goals and opportunities of 1993, of our diamond jubilee and all that offers. We plan to work hard to meet our goals and wish everyone in San Juan County the best of luck in meeting their goals. Our commitment to the future as this areas newspaper is solid, and we will achieve our goals by building on the past of such great individuals as Oscar McConkie, Joyce Martin and Ingrid Adams; and interesting characters like Marie Ogden as well as the other past editorsowners and contributors to the San Juan Record. As a new year of opportunity, growth, expansion and challenge opens to us all, may we all be up to it and willing to do our best each and every week. May we also be willing to put our shoulders, backs and hands into good works on a regular basis to improve our own and others - futures. r the San Juan Record , ISSN GREG DUERDEN Managing Editor and Publisher Published weekly at 937 E.
